Medical Class 1

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Hey guys!

I'm currently holding a JAR FCL medical class 1, which allows me to hold an ATPL as well.
Since I fell in love with New Zealand I'm thinking of moving there one day.
Does anyone know if the requirements to get an NZCAA? med class 1 are equal to the JAR FCL ones?
I know that here in Europe a lot of people fail the medical, unlike to the states. But how about New Zealand? Any experiences?
Or might it even be possible to "simply" convert the medical?
I don't feel like paying twice for a appointment at an AMC, when I'm already holding a valid med.

Oh and please excuse if I make grammatical - or spelling errors.
I'm not a native English speaker.

Cheers

If you hold a JAR Class 1 I'd be highly surprised if you couldn't obtain an NZCAA Class 1. Unless you have specific medical issues (such as eyesight or hearing) then you should be fine.

If you can pass a JAR medical then you will pass a NZCAA one.
Further information here: http://www.caa.govt.nz/medical/medical_home.htm
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Yeah I'm currently going for my class 1, I only need to get my general medical certified by Dr Dave and I've got a class 1 medical. And yeah, as you can see on the link, you can "convert" your medical. Although back in November '12 the fee increased 300% up to $313

Oh thanks a lot!
313$? Wow that's a bunch. Well in Germany the initial fee is about 400€ which should be around 650$. I only paid 500$ though.
If you refresh the medical it's just about 320$ depends on your doctor and how physically fit you are. There might be additional tests if doubts appear.
Cheers mates!
