Christchurch problems

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Adrian Brausch » Wed Feb 13, 2013 10:26 am

heya fella's I have been unable to get into NZCH with anything other than a basic default plane for a long time so have decided to finally sort it out,..I have removed or disbled everything I can possibly find related to Christchurch but still there is a scenery activated as well as a strange building that has no texture that is behind the Antarctic Hangar. I always install scenerys as per the instructions supplied with them so as to avoid problems so can someone please identify these scenerys/objects so I can remove themas at the moment I am lucky to get 3-4 fps with the default cessna let alone anything else (Area51 C-5 reduces it to -1,000,000 fps and promptly stops FSX in its tracks. blink.gif

hah yea well I found the source of that visible scenery too and deleted it,..thing is even with everything seemingly gone there is something within NZCH airport that is reducing my fsx to a time machine everytime I look in its direction,..gets less agressive the further away I fly from the airport,...but yea there is Nothing visible there ?????........baffled and extremely annoyed !!

I'm very sure it would be the polygon this was was connected to the made texture but i think it would have to do with the very much out design program i use to build the airport , this entire area is now so little reconignise now a full build is required , i ll get the photo area or least around the airport with the AGN and check with others what is happening .. maybe ill move back into building airports .

Hmmmm the texture-less building in that image looks like the Antartic Center... but that looks weird indeed.

Yes , This is the Antarctic Center , the model was built back in 2005 and was used on the V2 of NZCH04 for FS9 , this scenery did work pre service packs in FSX as did all FS9 scenery and builds .

Memories,memories...this is really testing the ould brainbox blink.gif
I just retrieved NZCH04.zip from a backup.
It unzips to a Scenery.zip and a Textures.zip NB 'Textures' is plural. These unzip to normal folders with the same names. . 'Textures' needs to be renamed to 'Texture' (singular)
The Readme says:
"3. INSTALLATION - All you have to do is delete the nzch04v1 scenery and replace with this scenery file folder and add the extra texures to your texture folder. Thats it ."
NB Extra textures...which suggests you keep the texture files from v1.1 and add the ones from NZCH04
NZCH04 has 52 texture files, mostly cars and airbridges. I do have an AFCAD for NZCHv1.1 but if I have the NZCHv1.1 it must be backed up on a CD - will have a look.

I also remember making a lot of probs for myself by assuming NZCH05 was the latest version at the time, but I think it turned out that NZCH04v2 was correct for Christian's 20m mesh and Topo, which I had, but '05 was actually for the default airport which was displaced by about half the length of the main runway...I think...something like that anyway.

NZCH05 was made to suit the defunct NZscenery Christchurch photoreal as with the Wigram for FS9

Thanks Ian - I found that out this morning. I also found a backup of my old FS9.1, which must have been taken when the NZCH banjaxing was in full swing. In that install it is NZCH05. I copied it into the FS9.1 on this machine (Win7x64).
About the only useful thing I found was, I can change Scenery complexity 'on the fly' which I never knew before - I thought FS9 needed an exit/restart for every little thing.
At 'Normal' much of the airport is swamped by untextured default buildings.
At 'Sparse' I get an untextured Antarctic Centre, even though the textures are present in the Texture Folder. Deep Freeze is present, but the roof is white (pretty sure the texture comes from another scenery which is not installed/active) at present.
At 'Very Sparse' the Antarctic Centre disappears. Deep Freeze is there with the white roof. There are still some apparently default intruders scattered around.
At any setting, I clearly have two airports - there are two sets of runways, overlapping by a few yards. BUT I can't find another active AF2 for NZCH.
The old files don't seem to be auto-installers and in the readmes there is no advice to disable default APnnnnnn files, as we used to do.
So at the moment I'm stumped...on the old XP machine NZCH looked great until I broke it - everything present and correct.

I will need to redo the FS9 airport from scratch, from the old zips. Back soon... sad.gif

I maybe able to step back in time , be damn interesting to find my source files - from there could have a play , deleting poly's would get/bring the frames back up and the airport into some sort of what it resembled .. a retro .. and build on it again on the new Christchurch photo-base and start rebuild models again .

I waded through a couple of thousand old screenies yesty, looking for one that showed the Antarctic Centre as it should be. Couldn't find one that proved my memory one way or the other. sad.gif
While I was asleep I thought about putting it in as a separate scenery, but all that did was show me the untextured building. Folder = Antarctic Centre, scenery= antcnt.bgl, texture= AC1a.bmp, AC1a_lm.bmp.
Is it possible to have a mismatch between the texture the bgl is looking for, and the name of the texture bmp ?

I am going to put this away for a while. I stripped it out of my FS9, everything to do with NZCH, and then reinstalled, up to nzch04v2. The building shows, but the texture doesn't.
The texture bmps are present in the texture folder, and I can see them with IrfanView and with Paint.NET.
I tried installing it as a separate scenery item, but it remained untextured. Remembering Gerry Winskill's refineries, I tried with the textures in Addon Scenery\texture as well as in the NZCH04\texture folder. I also tried with them in the main FS9 texture folder (i.e. in all three places) but still no joy. So it will just have to wait.
I had hoped it would be a simple matter of finding a texture Adrian was missing, and sending it to him. Them's the breaks...

Cheers and thanks

Ain't that pretty!

I revisited this while I was rebuilding my Classic FS and finally saw what the problem was blush.gif rolleyes.gif
The bgl to use is Antcent.bgl (51KB) - note the 'e'.
Somewhere along the line this has changed from Antcnt.bgl, (29KB) which was in an earlier version of Ian's NZCH.

I had both in the Addon Scenery\ NZCH05v1\scenery folder, and noticed I had some textures but also a flickering effect, which often points to a bgl conflict. So I disabled the smaller one, and there it was. biggrin.gif

I also have the textures in both the Addon Scenery\ NZCH05v1\texture folder and the main Classic FS\texture folder, but I don't think that is needed. Just leaving it like that for now.

smile.gif Cripes Mike .. this scenery now so retro , dates well back ten years prob running into twelve now, almost hard to believe what the airport looks like today .. the entire aera looks nothing like that anymore - gone the insides .. this was the best airport in the NZ now .. would have been OK had they kept the observation deck .

People did have texture . best thing to do was if that happened was place the textures of both files into your main FS9 folder . The Antarctic center model was not mine , this was done by Jason Hunt for the V05 scenery.

wink.gif The texture trick was the first thing I tried, way back then. I knew I once had the textured building - just couldn't see why not, until now.
Just need to sort out those levels now. cheers1.gif
