VectorLandClass/Godzone Hokitika NZHK

This is almost ready to go, I just need a few people to give it a test run.

This scenery actually began as an update of the old Godzone 'Kaniere', which was a very old photo scenery of the area from hokitika through to Lake Kaniere. In fact up until today it's lived in a scenery folder called 'GodzoneKaniere', but now it's just Hokitika. The old photo scenery was based on the LINZ images which don't add much to FSX. Maybe I'll release this one day for those who don't have any landclass addons, and just use default FSX...

The scenery includes the airport and township. Thanks to the Westland Borough Council for the aerial image.

Originally I wanted to return to Hokitika and take enough photos to build a 'small town' library for VLC, but I've never managed to get back there. However from my original trip I did get a few photos around town, so there are some photo models of various buildings etc, about 35 from memory. I did want to replace all the autogen with models, as FSX includes too many two-storey houses, which are few and far between on the Coast. However this will have to wait until I can build a library. In the meantime, this does include an edited autogen texture set, which I've finally managed to get working.

This should work in any configuration, with or without Vector Land Class, and hopefully with Orbx NZSI. It is best with VLC, as it does use the VLC autogen native bush, so if you don't have VLC then these trees will appear as default rainforest. It uses Vector Land Class libraries 1.3, but since this release will go onto Avsim rather than the VLC site, I've included the libraries in this install just to get people started. If you have an earlier version of the libraries, it should update them. Any problems, let me know.

The only thing yet to do is to replace a few autogen buildings which suffer from the Orbx gabled roof problem. If you install it for use with NZSI, then you'll need to use FTX Central to change the FTX priority to something suitable. The Hoki manual will include details, but there is no manual yet...

Hokitika is one of the few NZ airfields where Orbx didn't change the elevation, so this installer doesn't need to fiddle with Orbx files at all.

Please let me know if you have any issues with the installer, or notice anything within the scenery which doesn't appear to work properly. I started this scenery so long ago that I've forgotten whether I left stuff half-finished. I'll post some screenshots of what it should look like.

I've removed the link to the download now, the final version will be on Avsim once a few finishing touches are completed. Keep up the feedback if any issues arise.

No observed problems at VLC or FTX. I run these on seperate computers. VLC no problems using autoinstall. You must have spent a few hours on the western boundary fence; the north end over the rolling humps. FTX installed ok but one must "bak" the NZSI bgl file. The shot below is showing the FTX display. The scenery must be positioned above any FTX files.

Thanks for that, Clyde. The manual will include information on using FTX Central to set the FTX insertion point, but at the moment this just gets a mention in the readme. Which reminds me, I need to get onto the manual today...

Issues which have been fixed since the beta:

Missing flag night texture;
Completed night texture on runway markings;
All models drawcall-batched which speeds things up a lot on old systems like mine;
A few NZ flags added, because I like them.

I need to tidy up the aerial image under the runway. I changed the runways a bit last week when suddenly a new Google Earth aerial appeared, showing updated markings, but forgot to tidy up the photo underneath... That should be done tomorrow.

I've done a quick check for collision detection issues, but this is tricky to test properly -- if some testers could try a flight in and out with collision turned on it would help a lot.

This is now finished, and available from Avsim. If you downloaded the beta, you should download this as well and just let it run over the current installation.

Here's the file on Avsim. You will need to be logged in to download.

Will give it a try.
Have good memories of Hokitika,
first was, i could not keep the name up into my mind. My wife has always to remind me..
second was the big clock in the middle of the road if you enter the town/village...
third was the wood turtle wich we found on the way to the beach...
fourth where the beautifull and tasty "Broetchen" ( buns or rolls ) which we could buy in a supermarket.... hmmmmm rolleyes.gif

...which is included in the scenery. Take a look at the Godzone Facebook page for a screenshot.

As mentioned on Facebook, this model has the most polygons of any model in this scenery, certainly more than the airport terminal. It's all those curves which add complexity. I think the Nelson terminal might have more polys, but not by much.

But as you've said, it kind of makes an impression, so it deserves to be included.

P.S. My first memory of Hokitika is the old combined road/rail bridge, which is gone now. I remember dropping my motorbike on the track, and getting the footrest jammed in the rails...
