An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby bobbywilson » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:30 am

Hello For some time now i have been downloading and using VLC scenery, airports etc and have been very impressed However i have some questions which you guys may be able to help me with.First a little about me ,I have been a keen flight simmer for a good number of years I started about 1995 the main attraction was that i could always learn something and i never got tired of it and with the changes over the years it has been an ongoing pleasure I would like to thank all the contributors that have helped me and no doubt
a lot of others .
So Here's a couple of questions Why can i not find the VLC cook strait ferries I have downloaded and installed it using the provided installer the bgl files appear to have gone to the right places i think eg under boats in the simobjects folders also in the scenery/world folder and the program is installed with in the FSX scenery sliders are full up for Ships and ferries still no luck.
Some other thoughts maybe some thing to do with AI this some thing i need to learn more about i am using an old version of TTools and no very little about are their better programs about that you could recommend .
Last problem I am still using an older staticobjects library as well now the vlc libraries is this OK?
one other thing re landclass I still have the red baron NZ mesh and NZ topo running in the addon scenery with all of this happening i still manage to achieve a fairly good frame rate 40 to 50 FPS most of the time.
Thanks this was not meant to be an essay sorry about that but do look forward to any suggestions bobbywilson

Hi Bobby.
As you've probably guessed, using a FS9 flightplan will exclude all FSX traffic, so you'd need to recompile your old AI for FSX. AI Flight Planner is worth trying, there's a wealth of info on FSDeveloper.com.
(Including the rather ominous 'Sticky: DON'T MIX FS9 and FSX TRAFFIC FILES'...

You can use any libraries you like, they won't affect each other, they should all be unique objects.

As Rob mentioned, FS9 AI files will cause conflicts so you will either need to disable or update them.

In terms of having RedBaron activated, you don't need to as VLC replaces all the same data- You may get some benefit in loading times by disabling the RedBaron folders in your scenery library when using VLC smile.gif

Hi Ian How did you get on with The cook strait ferries I've still been trying But to be Honest i am totally confused as to what i've got and what i haven't so having to back track and find out what i am doing wrong or what is conflicting. The problem is that when i ran the installer with all other VLC packages i had no problem and all are in and working real good.ALSO i am a bit short on knowledge RE AI traffic and all its vagaries. So will keep trying and hoping I know their is an answer just got to find it regards BOB

Hi Bob , Installation worked without a hitch , on installing there was an adjustment mentioned to change the cfg. .. you might want to reinstall and follow the that configuration line in the readme .

Have you increased your 'Ships and Ferries' sliders (just put them on full to test)?

With FSX reinstall , leave anything FS9 related out , good luck - generally it will fix all the weird issues , just remember if you are doing any extra work make sure you put it aside - but a clean install is always a remedy , course you now no what not to put in .
