Nice, hope you enjoy. You can install some freeware HD clouds until you get your wallet recovered. These are the clouds I use in FSX. HDEv2.0 (given the age of my PC I use the high performance clouds)
Says it's for FS2004 but if you use the cloud01.bmp file only in FSX should work fine, working fine for me anyway.

There may be a setting in your AS.Evo for cloud layers, in order to add more. Just guessing though, I don't have the program myself. Cheers

Thank you Alister! smile.gif
Your advice and knowledge has been really helpful. Haha yeessss,.. my wallet is shrinking ohmy.gif think I've blown my budget (including a replacement CAT for my car next week - OUCH that is really going to hurt!) Lot to be said for retail therapy (prob why I'm looking for a hurricane Grrr muahhhh!). Fortunately, I downloaded and saved a lot of stormy type FSim weather. ATM am installing ORBX NZ (I hope!) should be some nice textures in there too. Has been quite a mission. Sadly, Red Baron had to go, but is still in FS9. I couldn't stop drooling over the screen shots. Will let you know how it goes (...still installing as I write!)

Oh yes, ASE has many settings - and I believe you can upgrade from your version too!. Worth a look for sure! smile.gif

Again, thanks for all your help! winkyy.gif

Cheers KE (to be continued....)

By cat you mean Cat Convertor? Don't replace it biggrin.gif It's not required by law in NZ. Just get a straight section of pipe put in to replace it, that will cost a $100 all up max. biggrin.gif
I'm glad to help where I can. I've been simming and reading forums for over ten years now. People in forums helped me learn, I'm glad to return the favour where and when I can.
I'm still very happy using VLC for FSX NZ, and still fly FS9 a lot myself so can't justify an Orbx upgrade (plus I fly overseas a lot anyway- hence the Wandering Albatross avatar lol). Currently flying Madrid, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal but planning on heading back to NZ in the next week perhaps (always take off from where I land!)
Cheers

PS I know what you mean about drooling over the screenshots. Love this forum for all the screenshots that get posted up!

Haha

Yes Cat Converter - unfortunately, RX8's should have them, despite what the forums on the subject say (no wonder their engines are going pop!) - gutting the CAT is OK short term, but they're an iPhone on wheels - I risk damaging the engine long term if I don't replace it (earlier rotaries are fine but the Renesis is a fussy beast - everything is controlled by computers! Without the CAT, the engine computers try to compensate, over richening the fuel mix, creating more wear, carbons up the engine, and the Check Engine Light stays on permanently, so you won't know if it's trying to alert you to another problem which could be much worse! Sure, a few guys have run around for a few years without them but they won't get a long-life out of their engines eventually - and I sure don't want to fork out for one of those! hehe)

Hah, now back to topic: I've kept Red Baron on FS2004 - which I still love as I've invested a lot of $ and time over the years, plus I love all the classic aircraft it came with. IMO, the DeHavilland Comet was one of the better models that Microsoft did... (by contrast, the FS9 King Air looks really... awful!).

Unfortunately the poor old PC it's on is getting a bit long in the tooth. FSX on the Mac was basically stock standard-out-of-the box but with Red Baron, FScene and qute a few third party aircraft. But was dying to try ORBX after seeing the reviews and I'm not disappointed. It gobbled up almost 20GB - and would have to be THE LONGEST install I've ever done! - and I'm now pretty short on hard drive space (it's only a laptop), but it's running very smoothly. The detail is fantastic! It's also improved the "weather painting" enormously in Active Sky (which I'm wrapped with).

Mostly I fly in NZ in FSX (idea being if I really had a pilots license, that's where I'd be flying), but with FS9 - all over the place as the improvements I've made to that, scenery wise, are better than my current FSX (now excluding NZ).

I've been simming since the early "stick-figure" versions back in the 80's LOL> showing my age!!! > Wow, it's come a LONG way eh?? Better than TV anyways winkyy.gif

Hopefully I can go all out on the newer grunty PC (when I get it LOL!) But this will keep me occupied for a LONG time me thinks smile.gif

Have an awesome flight today! (I just missed Te Aroha completely and landed my Bonanza in an adjacent paddock!) winkyy.gif

Cheers! smile.gif

PS - speaking of screen shots - I'd better do some. Never knew all I had to do was hit "V" in FSX - I learn something new in here every day!

Good point about the exhaust! I'm not knowledgable on rotaries smile.gif
Good to hear you've got it all going well now. I enjoy both sims very much, and proud to say I fly both as well. More power to us! biggrin.gif

I'm heading back to NZ now, flying Heathrow to LAX, ANZ001 in the 777-300. If I'm lucky I'll be back in NZ tomorrow night lol

My RW weather has stuck on 140/4 and 80km vis- I can't remember the last time we had a south easterly anywhere! (That's through the default FSX real world weather menu).

I tried booting up REX essential today to see what the storm we're experiencing in Auckland looks like in the sim, but for some reason the latest METAR it pulls from NZAA is dated 080000Z and has CAVOK conditions.

So now I've downloaded the FSrealWX lite program you recommended Alister but can't seem to connect it with FSX (The send WX to FS) option from the main menu is greyed out and unclickable. Is there a step I'm missing between punching in NZAA, and pressing Start? It just hangs on the waiting for FS line...?

Ive just completed a flight up and down the West Coast then across to West Melton just outside Christchurch Intl , at any point the weather should have turned since NZCH has a direct link to weather , been rubbish here all day and on the norm was a change but nothing happened ! .. i have to look into this further.

Hmm, my real world weather goes now but its doing what you guys are saying, right now here in Nelson its bucketing down - has been all day and FSX's real world weather says light winds and a few clouds?

I have purchased REX but havn't got it yet will this fix these issues?

REX on my system (Hamilton) seems to be pretty close to what I see outside. I only ever choose real weather. I'm led to believe the new weather engine in the new REX is better than before. Its good enough for me anyway.

Put Active Sky through a check today and it represented exactly what was really going on - Nth of Auckland up to the North Cape lighthouse with a stop at Whangerei & Kaitaia anyways. I had the METSERVICE weather site switched on with the old PC for comparison (for those interested, this weather site has some great tools including 7.5 min progressive rain radar snaps of the weather):

http://www.metservice.com/rural/northland

I then went back in time, placed myself at Okinawa during the Hurricane they had back in Aug 2012. WOW. Not a good day for flying to Taipei (or in Okinawa). Never had a Baron do a vertical takeoff before!!! LOL. Have yet to see the actual circular funnel represented at the eye of the hurricane but it does a pretty good job!

From what I've seen and read, REX should give accurate weather reporting too. Am not sure how either will be represented if you're using the Reality XP WX500 weather radar. It's always done a pretty great job in FS9 when the FSim weather was updating correctly but I don't have it installed in FSX. Past forums have indicated there may have been some incompatibilities with Active Sky in the past but I can't find anything recent, ie these reviews of Active Sky & WX 500 are way old.

Please let us know how you get on with REX, Dashcaptain! smile.gif
