Bugger. So why are they here and haven't gone to Auckland? Might go out there and have a look.

Both gone now. Got out in time to see one go and thought I got a video of it taking off, my camera decided it didn't want it though. Must say....they're not as big as I was expecting. NZCH definitely isn't ready for them though, that's for sure.

If you didn't think they were as big as you expected could I surmise you didn't see them next to another plane ? On their own they're big sure but not that impressive, but when you see one taxi past a 747 or 777 or something else that you always thought was a big plane the sheer size of the thing suddenly hits you in a way it doesn't when you see it on its own. Or when they go around the back of a building where everything else disappears but you still see this montrous tail sticking up over the building .... Needs context to be really appreciated.

Answer to the closure. NZAA closed due to Qantas 738 with locked brakes stuck on high speed exit Alpha 6; tail sticking out onto runway. Departures available from A6 on 5R, no landing on 5R or 23L closed completely. This was for about an hour.

They were big, just not as big as I was expecting being the 2nd largest plane flying. Only saw the one taking off and shot around to the Deep Freeze part, 2nd one was parked up for a little bit and kind of saw it in comparison to the NASA 747.

The little NASA 747would really have his eye whiskers up whilst looking .... out there he'd already been newted and felt a little short on it biggrin.gif

I was through CHC today after the fog cleared and chatted to the guys that handle Emirates. Was apparently a bit of a mission juggling gates for the aircraft but they were assisted by the fact that Emirates carry a towbar on board the A380, just in case. Turned out to be a good move as they have nothing to fit the aircraft in CHC.

Since when has CHC been code F compliant?
Guess it fits with a few gate restrictions

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!
