What?!? ohmy.gif

How did that C17 land at the wrong airport?

This is definetly a pilot's mistake, should have had a GPS on that aircraft.

Runways are close and aligned the same direction. So, mistaking the tiny runway for the massive runway... biggrin.gif

But you would think that ATC would have noticed over at McDill (even if the captain didnt)... he must have been in comms thru the whole let down etc etc .... very odd.... and what was the co-pilot doing ?
I thinks some butts will be on the mat for this one.

I suppose VFR he just plowed on in. This happened last year so the pilot and co-pilot have probably already been flogged.

I've done this in a few sims lol(F4AF, FSX but not DCS), if you are in an area where there is a lot of runways its easy to do that's why always tune in the DME/TACAN just in case lol.

I've seen the C17 on a practice display , wont be a problem getting it out more the issue clearing the local population - mention taking fuel out and any cargo - the same call went out in the 1960's on the fist flight of Jack Conroy's Pregnant Guppy ... It flew better than an original C-97... mind you think about it , I would love to hear what was said in the cockpit on approach to the runway.

" I would love to hear what was said in the cockpit on approach to the runway".... obviously, not much .... the atc transcripts would be interesting , i mean , you would think before they were given the "clear to land" atc would have noticed . ..

A 727 can easily operate in and out of Woodbourne, but cannot carry a big enough combo of fuel/people/cargo to make it useful, hence why the RNZAF never operated them in and out of NZWB. The two aircraft which have landed were both one way trips at the end of their useful lifes. I was there to welcome the second one and when it landed it easily pulled up in 2/3 of the runway length.

They never flew them there for Air shows and they never took them off from there from what I recall some people believed at the time the runway was to short.
