Luckly, there were no disruptions of flights in and out of Blenheim Airport (Woodbourne) and Wellington International Airport, no damage to buildings, no risks of a tsunami etc.

However, that was a big earthquake! ohmy.gif, bigger than the Christchurch's devestating 6.3 magnitude earthquake that destroyed Christchurch's CBD, but smaller than the 7.1 magnitude earthquake which caused less damage, but in the same area.

You guys must be very lucky smile.gif

Its the depth and position .. Wobblyville as it is now know .. everyone was out like a light when the first hit .. and at 4.30 in the morn it was a one hell off a ride and strange it is surprising how your wits come together and go to what the hell and prepare mode .. it was the Second that was the shock factor to most .. but come from a different direction , i tested this idea over the months afterwards , had different effect and wash/spill from a measured glass of water on the desk .. very intriguing to feel and see or my case bloody exciting .

I don't have to buy that Buttkicker anymore smile.gif Anyways, it was an exhausting night...All those small aftershocks and a frightened pregnant wife.... I look 10 years older now.

We're not trying to claim this (wellingtonians) but it was the Wellington fault line after all, so it goes all the way from Upper Hutt, through Karori (where I live) and down to Marlborough... You could say it was a team effort smile.gif

Hang on to yer helmets guys!

Our office building was inspected and they advised it's safe. I came to work, but it's a ghost town...noone is around... Then, a 5.2 shook the building up a bit so I go back home now. If a big one hits I don't have much chance of getting back for some time....

Who cares who's claiming what. I feel a lot better being a 6.5 after it was initially reported as 6.8  blink.gif

PS.
Hands up all those in CHCH who are enjoying a little bit of this... Schadenfreude.

No reports here in Oz of anyone hurt, which is what we all want to hear. Just a song to maybe ease the stress a bit:

The Canterbury shocks took the Geo boys by surprised now thru the strait area , love to see the non published data fault line ... it really has not settled full stop across the 400/500 km and appear to be opening a few newer to it .. I wonder head a little further north and back across to Napier ... join the dots , need to check the southern region or the more consistant rock and rolls and mister wobbly's may give some sence to whats possibly incoming .
