Point taken Rob but would you enter a push bike in a Motor Raleigh or a car in a speed boat race I don't think so.

No, but if there was a family track day, where everyone was encouraged to enter, I'd enter on my push bike if that's all I had, just to participate. Which is the same way I see the screenshot comp, the less restrictions the better. And some members have a particular screenshot style -- look at Marty's screenshots with nothing but a beautiful aircraft against a sky -- he should be able to stick to this style if that's what he does best.

If there were no shortage of entries each month, then a treasure-hunt type of comp would be a great idea -- having to do the research, bring all the required elements together, and turn it into a great shot -- but a lot of us, especially new entrants, who just want to join in, would be better served by just concentrating on their best screenshot, rather than meeting all the requirements.

Certainly I'd rather retract all this if it leads to you talking about stepping down, you do a great job compared to past members, but maybe make it simpler for yourself -- put up a theme, by all means, just leave it open to interpretation.

I presume you meant "motor rally." ......Motor Raleigh just confuses things further...., even I would submit a push-bike on that spelling.. ohmy.gif

Most of the theme are open and just because I put one in that isn't some people take offense this is only the second theme in the whole time I have been doing the comp that has show land and ocean in the image so come on stop all your bickering as I said before if you don't like it then get someone else to do the competition pirate.gif

Big D you do an outstanding job, ...hows about everybody just enter the screenshot comps with the theme it asks for each month,..its not that difficult to do....or don't there is no ownice on anyone to enter every month !. If you dont happen to have an aircraft (or in Ian's case a Tea towel tongue.gif) then go to Avsim,Simviation,Flightsim or what ever and find one for god's sake , it won't hurt anyone to try a different type of aircraft now and again !. Traditions are for people who can't move on with the times. I myself made a mistake with not reading this months theme,..so I fixed it and made one that did fit...problem solved..no stress. I don't understand how this escalated into Doug wanting to step down ...utterly ridiculous and unnecessary . angry.gif

Big D,..keep on keeping on your work is very much appreciated by EVERYONE here at NZFF.

Heres a suggestion,..why dont we open a thread for suggesting possible themes for each month..

Guess and it is a tiresome job , every month - the GREAT BUNCH who continue to add month after month , to create a naughty - a Tea Towel was to make some brain cases open .. went the other way but maybe this will open followers to jump in the washing machine and come out posting some screens !

So to Back Doug , and to show how great a job he dose .. follow the guidelines ! icon_redface.gif STILL wiping me hands ... needed to throw that ole Tea Towel out .

You are right, nobody is forced to enter. However the low number of entries suggest that we can't afford to lose many simply because some people might find it complicated. Or maybe we can, I might be over-reacting. Personally I've rather see a hundred mediocre entries that don't quite meet the requirements, that a few beautiful shots by the same 2 dozen serious simmers each month. Earlier I quoted Doug's figures, which showed that 25% of entries so far this month didn't comply with the rules. There are two ways to improve this, one is to blame and berate these members until they comply or drop out, the other is to just remove any obstacles.

And I can't agree with your second point here -- a lot of people are in the same position as me, with a nice new clean system, and the desire to build the best sim I can. To do this, I am very careful about what I install in it. I make sure I have done my homework before installing anything, and this doesn't just apply to the sim. I plan to get a nice collection of aircraft, but I'm prepared to take my time doing this. I won't install an addon aircraft simply to comply with the comp. At the moment I have just a handful of addons, and I'd love to use these in my screenshots. Instead, I'm limited to default aircraft, which don't inspire me at all. Sure, I could have just let this month go. That didn't occur to me.

Rob, I'm with you on all of that. As Doug explained, this month's rule 6 was a bit of an accident, but once it was there we were required to follow it. No prob.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the degree of enhancement allowed - not everyone can afford Photshop; but I firmly believe the stout traditionalists will prevail in the end biggrin.gif

I must have missed that bit. Kind of adds to the charm, now I think about it.

Your point about 'traditionalists' is the crux of the editing issue -- a lot of people won't vote for overly edited shots, myself included, so it is kind of self-regulating. Unless someone who specialises in hard-core editing enters something which blows everyone away, in which case they get the votes they deserve. But editing doesn't automatically give any advantage.

Me too - I don't have the skills or the software, to enter a computer graphics comp.

Welcome to the NZFF August 2013 Screenshot Competition.

This month's rules are as follows (Please read them).

How can you know if your entry complies with the rules if you don't read them

The main thing is as above each month the rules can change and if you don't read them then the problem arises as it has done in this comp
Why do the rules change? well sometimes it is by me making a mistake which happened on this occasion but once members had already posted several entries that complied before it was picked up I deemed it only fair to them that I leave it as it was.
Other reasons why the rules may have extras in them in if the theme requires it or if the sponsor asks for a certain thing to be added to the theme.
So the easiest way for members to get their image right is read the rules before you enter not after you have entered it.

PS/ do not follow Ian Warrens entry as he is always trying to be a smart Ass, do your own image that complies with the rules and then things won't get out of hand.
