Ouch, that's harsh. Although I always thought it would be a good idea to restrict the screenshot thread to entries only, and have a separate thread for any feedback/discussions/fun. I'd be happy to have my post and subsequent discussion moved out of here, but it was a valid issue, so I wouldn't want to see it deleted.

You are right, nobody is forced to enter. However the low number of entries suggest that we can't afford to lose many simply because some people might find it complicated.

Jeeze Robin, it's hardly complicated! And re obstacles, the only one I can see is that people are not taking 10-seconds to read the criteria for the comp. There's gotta be a monthly theme of some sort, and doesn't seem too unreasonable to have the clause in there re NZ territory or aircraft. The image size is important and as you say Robin if the editing is over the top just don't vote for it.

Personally I love Ian's pics, I may not often vote for them, but I do occasionally and I always get a good laugh out of them.

Oh, and Doug Doug Doug !!! (please stay on at it mate, you're doing a fabulous job) thumbup1.gif

Biggest thing , Mike you pointed it out is Photo-shop .. YIP its great , but you don't need a whoooooping cooosting program .. its all from the brain case and today's just about do that for ya !

You can do most of what photoshop will do , with Picasa ....and its free.
I consider myself a "screener" as opposed to a "simmer" , and i give most of my shots 100% , i edit and will continue to do so with what ever i choose.
If the editing thing seems to be yet another bone of contention , then have a comp that has to be "raw" ....no editing.

Ive been lucky enough to have had a few banners (thank you all) but each comp is different ...there seems to no rhyme or reason to the way it pans out .... you win twice ...and then not one vote.
For my part , some of the shots Ive submitted , and thought would rate ...have bombed, and some of the half arsed attempts have won .... go figure .

Anyway , i do feel privileged to be among such talent .... keep them coming .

ah yea,...there is no issue here,..read the rules of the screenshot comp and make a screenshot that complies with it...not difficult. If its "harsh ",..why in the same sentence do you say " Although I always thought it would be a good idea to restrict the screenshot thread to entries only " ???...thats disagreeing then agreeing with what I said Rob ?. I have a huge amount of respect for you and your work but really why is it soo difficult to follow a few very simple rules. And Dougs theme for this month ' T-Tails",..what is confusing about that that you had to google it ,..If it was an " S-Tail or K-tail or tea towel( Sorry Ian your awesome hah biggrin.gif ) then perhaps but " T " ,..er a tail shaped like a " T "...I don't understand your confusion Rob ?. A Clean install that you don't want to violate is fine but there are a multitude of outstanding free stuff available in every aircraft type from "reputable " designers,...I have had personally not one issue from the thousands of stuff I have downloaded from Simviation,Avsim,Flightsim, SOH or OZx etc,....I do stick to those sites tho. Respect Rob but really ? blink.gif

We seem to have gone a bit off-track here. I don't have any problem reading or understanding the rules. It's simply that we went from three rules*, none of which limited the choice of aircraft, subject matter or anything except the location. I can understand if that didn't work out, but I wasn't aware of any problem with it. All I'm asking is why do we need more restrictions?

I agree that a theme is good -- the intention of the theme was always to inspire some thought, not to limit anything.

* It had to be a screenshot. It couldn't be wider than 1280px. It had to be within NZ.

Adrian -- 'harsh' to just delete chunks of a discussion, rather than shift it somewhere more appropriate. I do agree with most of your points, just not the bit where my posts just go away, so as not to annoy anyone. I can't fault your point about not scaring off anyone, though -- mainly because this is exactly the point I was making with my original post.

You are quite right in hindsight what I should have said was as you said,..shift this discussion somewhere else rather than within the screenshot comp,..and Rob it was not directed solely at you I wanted my posts and and everyones removed from this thread back to the last submitted screenshot (which is outstanding ) so this comp can continue,..If I was new coming to this thread and read all this carryon I would be saying to myself #### that this is waaay too serious !. So again MODERATOR can you please shift the threads after the last submitted screenshot entry to a discussion thread so this months screenshot comp can continue if it hasnt already been killed . Respect Rob.

I don't know how you can say the low number of entries when we have about the same amount of entries as we do for any other comp at this time of the month
Here are the stats for this year
Jan 26 entries
Feb 23 entries
Mar 19 entries
Apr 20 entries
May 19 entries
Jun 26 entries
Jul 35 entries
So far this month with still 12 days to go we have over 20 entries
Since I have been doing the comp starting Nov 2010 with 12 entries with the average working out at 24.5 entries a month the most entries was in June 2010with 54 entries and the lowest was in Nov 2012 with 16 entries

The only thing that is a worry for me is that all this bickering could turn some of the sponsors off that I have worked so hard to organize.

I would not call it bickering ... i'd call it over enthusiasm and trying to encourage ... open peoples minds ... put the numbers in .. its showing the newbies to try and jump in and make an effort ... SO MANY LOOK AT WHAT CAN BE DONE , not sure whether its laziness or scareness .. fear .. its not the prize be the energy to jump in with something new .

Edit Now lets get back to posting your comp images or editing those that need to be edited to comply with the rules for this months competition.

Apologies if any one else has a similar shot, I did look but got side tracked with all the great postings and then forgot what I had been looking at!
