Although many have migrated to FSX, I still find that FS2004 has plenty of advantages over it....the NOCD patch vs Activation...for one!
Multiple installs of FS2004 on one PC, which is not so easy with FSX where complexity and security issues hamper multiple copies on the same PC.

However, everybody is entitled to his or her own preferred choice. Many of you seem to favour FSX, including the chief here....Snowman!!

Just one humble request to Snowman......

I am one who lives halfway round the world from you Kiwis, and in the northern hemisphere. On an island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Since I discovered Snowman's FS9 airports several years back, I have been collecting and installing every single one of them.
And as I have no intention of switching to FSX anytime soon - though it IS installed and activated on my PC - I was wondering if Snowman might still create the
occasional new airport for us simmers who are enamoured with FS2004....

Though New Zealand lies some 10,000 miles from my homeland, I have always been struck by the superb natural beauty of the land you walk upon.
So much so, that from the outset, I purchased the Red Baron Topo and Mesh by Christian Stock.
Upon discovering Snowman's ever-burgeoning collection of NZ airports - tailored for the Red Baron mesh - I was overjoyed that all these airports would fit in nicely
with my prized Red Baron enhancements.
Needless to say, I have kept installing Snowman's new airports when time permitted.
And to this day, Snowman's NZ airports are perhaps one of my favourite locations that I cherish year after year.

Yes, dear Snowman, you definitely deserve some sincere words of praise and appreciation for the painstaking care and time you invested creating such intricate addons
for us all to enjoy.......as freeware.

It would be nice - if once in a while - you spare a thought for us simmers who still adhere firmly to flying in the skies of FS2004.
If nothing else, dear Snowman, simmers like us keep ALL your FS9 creations alive and preserved carefully in our PCs.
Though you might consider them as things of the past, to me - and those like me - they are as fresh as today's dewdrops.
My all-time favourite is MILFORD SOUND.... which has ever been a scenic spot. Hidden among the towering mountains and meandering valleys, constructed at sea level.

Anyway, dear Snowman, thanks for sharing all your superb NZ airports with us all and for bestowing us with countless hours of joyful flying in FS2004.
Rest assured, that as long as there is even one like me, all your NZ airport will be lovingly admired and spotlessly maintained in the years to come.

Just one more thing...about NZQN Queenstown....to you all.
Ever since Mr. Peter Lohr created his version of NZQN Queenstown, nobody has ever produced another high-quality freeware version of this coastal airport, which like Milford Sound, is hidden among towering mountains. Not even you, dear Snowman.
Unfortunately, Peter Lohr's rendition of Queenstown - lovely as it is - has been a disappointment for me....why???

Well, upon installation, I have always found WHITE aprons and carparks and taxiways all over this NZ airport......don't ask me why!
I have all the old textures: VOD, ASD, Nova, Airport 2.10, and Snowman's Static OBjects Library.....etc. etc.
Apparently, this is not a universal problem or Peter Lohr would have addressed this issue right from the start.
However, some simmers have encountered this problem also, and a patch was available at the old (closed) site of Peter Lohr, known as SDNZ (Scenery Design New Zealand).
The patch was : NZQN Patch 1.0.1

Incidentally, another guy like you, from NZ faced this very problem, and in one of the NZFF forums, as this link proves:

http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8159

I was wondering if any one of you might have this very patch. The reason is that all of you here will probably have collected every available NZ airport for installing on your setup - over the years.
One or two of you might have encountered these same white textures at Queenstown in the past, and were able to acquire the patch while it was available. Since Queenstown is a major airport and as popular as Milford Sound to many simmers.

Though I have endeavoured to rectify this problem in numberous ways...nothing has worked so far!
But it sure would be great to see Queenstown as most of you have seen it on their PC....with NO white taxiways, aprons and carparks....

Anyway, it's always a pleasure to visit your web-site. And to see simmers who love to fly in the virtual skies of New Zealand, sharing problems and solutions with all.

Wishing You Many Happy Flying Hours in your preferred Simulator,
Ron

Hello Ron, nice to meet a NZ flightsimmer from halfway around the world!
I have Aerosoft's Malta, and it's a favourite stopover when flying around the Med.

I am still of the opinion that the FS9 NZ experience is one of the most complete ever, ORBX et al notwithstanding.
Mesh, topo, airports, AI, local repaints - all very well represented for a truly authentic NZ experience.

As regards Queenstown: I've put up what's in my sim here
https://rapidshare.com/files/2139542800 ... 20v1.0.zip
Can't remember what's in there, but it works for me.
Perhaps it will sort out your issues.

A lot of the Snowman sceneries have been lost... I am wondering if you might consider uploading some of the missing ones to flightsim.com with Lawrie's co-operation?
There is ongoing interest in NZ FS9 stuff, would be great to have it in one place.
I would've done it, but my sim is filled with beta and works-in-progress, as I was involved with some of the sceneries.

Hello there Ron.

Welcome to our little corner of the FlightSim world.............
I am overwhelmed by your generous thanks for my old FS9 work. Thank you very much.
Up until a few months ago, i still had FS9 up and running side by side with FSX. I still used to do most of my flying in FS9, and mostly only did scenery building work only in FSX, with
very little actual flying time. I do like a lot of things about FSX over FS9, but i found FS9 still gave the better overall immersive flying experience for me.
A few months ago the power supply in my FS machine went silly and pumped mains voltage into some things it shouldnt have.
The HDD's were fried, which included my backup drive containing everything that was FS9.
Unfortunately, nothing was recoverable from any of the drives.
I have subsequently re-installed FSX in the repaired machine, but its nothing like it used to be in the way of addons, and i just dont have the heart, or the time to try
and re-install FS9 again as well, along with finding and installing all the addons etc id collected since late 2003 when i got FS9.
I therefore have no FS9 tools anymore, so am unable to build anything for it anyway.
Sadly, all i have left of FS9 is the original boxed Microsoft 4 CD set.
So, im very sorry, but there is not much help i can offer you on your problem,......... much as i would like to.
Hopefully, the link to various items for FS9 Queenstown that Charl has generously provided, will prove to be useful and helpful to you.

@ CHARL,....... Ive thanked you many times over the years for all the help you have given me, and for all the little FS9 projects that we have collaborated upon together, but i
thank you again, for the link you generously provided, in an effort to help Ron out of his predicament.
Yes Charl, a lot of my older FS9 sceneries have been lost, when Avsim was hacked a few years back, and unfortunately, i myself no longer have any of them.
There is still a huge amount of interest in FS9, and at times, i could swear that the interest in FS9 is actually growing !!
There are still a reasonably large number of my old FS9 sceneries available online, but they are scattered between Avsim.com, FlightSim.com, and Simviation.com.
Unfortunately, between the 3 sites, it still doesnt cover everything i ever did for FS9, which if memory serves correctly, was a total of 137 sceneries for New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, New Caledonia, and a few others i did in Washington State in the USA, and a few in Australia and the UK.
I would be happy to co-operate with anyone that had a full set of everything i did for FS9, and give permissions etc for them to be re-uploaded to one of the major FS sites, probably FlightSim.com would be my preference there.

The patch was : NZQN Patch 1.0.1[/quote]

From the Readme:

"Patch for NZQN Queenstown Airport by Peter Lohr , upgrades to Version 1.0.1

Please Note: This problem only occurs for very few people so check if you really need this patch.

The problem is that all missing textures have file names longer than 8 characters, so you need to rename those textures to 8 character files (as described below) and you will need to place all those bmp textures (back) in your FS9/Texture folder.

The NZQN Queenstown Airport.bgl, NZQN Queenstown Airport_Exclude.bgl, NZQN Queenstown Airport.xcl need to go into your NZQN Queenstown Airport/scenery folder and replace the existing files.

I advise you to backup the other ones though because any future patch would require you to restore those files to work properly.

First follow these steps:
1. Copy NZasphltqn.bmp from your NZQN Queenstown/texture folder to your Flight Simulator 9\Texture folder.

2. Make copies of the following in Flight Simulator 9\Texture folder (the originals must remain here for your other scenery to work properly):

taxi_trano.bmp
taxi_tarmac.bmp
taxi_macadam.bmp
taxi_concrete.bmp
taxi_bitu.bmp
LightGravelRoof.bmp

If you pasted them in the might be called 'Copy of...' now,
rename as follows:

1. NZasphltqn.bmp to nzqnashp.bmp
2. (Copy of) taxi_trano.bmp to nztrano.bmp
3. (Copy of) taxi_tarmac.bmp to nztarmac.bmp
4. (Copy of) taxi_macadam.bmp to nzmacada.bmp
5. (Copy of) taxi_concrete.bmp to nzconcre.bmp
6. (Copy of) taxi_bitu.bmp to nzbitu.bmp
7. (Copy of) LightGravelRoof.bmp to lgravrf.bmp

That's it."

If you email me I''ll send you the patch.

Thanks for the Rapidshare link !! I am downloading your zip file even as I type these words.
I will let you know what happens after I sort out your files and install them in my FS9.....OK ?
I will post the result here for you, and even PM you a copy to ensure you do get it without wasting time looking it up.....

As for Snowman's superlative sceneries, it's a crying shame he lost them so tragically !!
They are probably the BEST New Zealand airport collection on the web.....and they're freeware!.

Ye, I will rummage through my HDD backups for Lawrie's sceneries.
I may not have ALL his stuff, but I had a lot. I will mail him a complete list of his sceneries on my HDDs and he can
point out the missing ones. Then I would upload them to both Flightsim.com and Avsim.com.
It's wiser not to put all your eggs in one basket...in case of one of these sites going down.

Very kind of you to offer assistance....

With Good Wishes,
Ron

Jolly good of you to take time to explain in detail, dear Snowman, though it saddens me at your catastrophic loss of all your FS9 creations and FS9 tools that are now
irretrievably lost. The loss to you is also to us all flightsimmers. Your NZ airports are payware grade....the accompanying docs were always impeccably worded and illustrated....and I can
assure you I will miss all the new FS9 sceneries you might have created.....IF your HDDs had not been fried.

Yes, over the years, I endeavoured to download every new scenery you created for NZ, dear Snowman.
Though they are all safe on my HDDs, I cannot vouch that I have ALL the collection you uploaded.
However, you are more than welcome to view a list of the ones in my possession and point out the ones you wish to upload at Flightsim.com
I would be happy to do so for you, as long as you notified Flightsim about granting permission. They are VERY fussy about this....as you know.

What do you think, dear Snowman?

Sincerely,
Ron

I wish to thank ALL of you here who offered whatever help, advice or assistance in helping me out with Peter Lohr's Queenstown.
The problem was solved thanks to ZK-LGD who forwarded the Patch.
When I installed it, the white textures were replaced by the appropriate ones and I can now enjoy Queenstown fully....

Sincerely,
Ron
