Today is the 73rd anniversary, an appropriate day to post the official poem of the RAF:

"High Flight"

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
Pilot Officer RCAF

A time I well remember, in London, spending every night in our Anderson Air Raid Shelter in the garden, with the Hun dropping bombs all around us, before evacuating to the county of Herefordshire, (where I/we have remained ever since), to save our lives.
So many of our friends and neighbours died in the conflagration.

Paul....A war-time Evacuee.

Paul , Least we remember , the horrid stuff that happened , and since in a way exciting .. War is what it is , licence for murder as some put it , but for the normal going back to the history , myself look at both sides and admire those from both sides , not the nasty but the competition , and today its people like that make the rules or give direction ..

With recent talk about Han's E Rudel , people talk about loss of family , time takes things the best thing is memory ,...... and if you don't have it .... create it ! , never met my Fathers Brother Norman , but some friggen reason i keep drawing the Warship he was killed on the HMNZS Leander , 1943 Don't figure .. least i remember !
