FTX AI for NZ

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Hello fellow simmers
Is anybody using the free FTX ai for Aust & NZ?
If so what is it like on frame rates. I am using VLC and free & payware sceneries for NZ but have not got any Orbix sceneries installed.
I have been using some of my own made up traffic files & default traffic files to generate ai in NZ.
I guess this would work without Orbix sceneries installed.
I have been looking for some images of this ai but can't seem to find any. If you are using this package could somebody post some shots of what they look like.
If you install this ai package can it be easily uninstalled if you don't like it?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Daryl

Hey Daryl.

The package is comprehensive, the models are nicely detailed for the most part, and the density is good. Don't really know how accurate the schedules are but who really cares about that. They shouldn't depend on any Orbx scenery other than maybe some parking spots in the AFCADs not matching but they'll park themselves somewhere else in that case. You can easily uninstall the package as the AI models all sit in their own aircraft folders and there's only a small (3 I think) collection of BGL files in the world/scenery/ folder to remove.

Just go for it mate.

Ok Thanks for that info.
I will give it a go. To get rid of the default ai do I just turn the sliders down to zero?
Thanks,
Daryl

Leave your sliders where they are, pretty sure the FTX stuff is sensitive to that. I believe their installer disables your default AI.
If you have other AI installed which it sounds like you do, then you'll probably want to move those BGL files somewhere else if they're covered by FTX otherwise you'll be getting lots of double-ups. Perfectly ok to leave AI there tough that they don't cover.

Ok

Since we are on the FTX AI question and answer session smile.gif Here is a curly one for you. I installed the traffic and the B737 only comes up with lights of the aircraft showing, it is like it is invisible yet the other aircraft that where installed in the package show up.

Thoughts.

Mine seem to be ok, the flightplans seem to be very realistic it now even has all the ATR 72 -600 series and the new livery for the A320, I only have ever used FTX AI, very user friendly

Thanks for that guys,
Downloaded the base pack and update. So far it looks pretty cool...........from what I have seen.
Because I do not have any FTX sceneries installed I can not get access to FTX Central switch. So I now do not have any default ai for the rest of the world as you can not switch it back without the switch.....
As I only fly in NZ it is not a problem for me.
I think I found somebody else on this forum downloaded one of trial sceneries and obtained the FTX Central switch that way. This would save having to reinstall the ai everytime that you ever wanted the default ai back.
Cheers,
Daryl

You could handle the switch quite easily, just make another folder in Scenery\World\scenery to hold the files you don't want active -- call it something like 'inactive'.
There are only 3 FTX AI files involved, and one default traffic file, so this should take just a few seconds.
for something a bit more elegant, just put a batch file on your desktop.

Hey Daryl,

FTX simply renames your default AI file using an extension that FSX will then ignore. If you want to activate it again just look for the following file...
\FSX\Scenery\World\Scenery\trafficAircraft.bgl.DISABLED-FOR-FTX-AI

and rename it back to...
trafficAircraft.bgl

restart FSX and voila !!! thumbup1.gif

The FTX AI packages, for both AU/NZ and NA, have control panels. To use these, follow these steps -
1. Make a new shortcut on the desktop, by (Right Click)/New/Shortcut.
2. When the dialogue box appears, under Type The Location Of The Item, enter "(FSX Directory here)\ORBX\Scripts\OrbxControlPanel.exe" /config=orbx_cpl_ftxauai.xml
3. Click Next. Call it FTX AUNZ AI Control Panel.
4. Check the link. Right click, and click on Properties. In Target, it should say "(FSX Directory here)\ORBX\Scripts\OrbxControlPanel.exe" /config=orbx_cpl_ftxauai.xml, and in Start In, it should say "(FSX Directory here)\ORBX\Scripts\"

You should now have a shortcut that, when opened, will bring up a control panel, with tick boxes, that allows you to customise the FTX AI. This way, you Do Not need FTX Central.

*NOTE* For the NA AI, change "(FSX Directory here)\ORBX\Scripts\OrbxControlPanel.exe" /config=orbx_cpl_ftxauai.xml to "(FSX Directory here)\ORBX\Scripts\OrbxControlPanel.exe" /config=orbx_cpl_ftxnaai.xml, and call it FTX NA AI Control Panel.
