A cheap way to get the authentic look is to photo a 737 quad , least the stencil , get printed on metallic adhesive tape may look smart or the cheap option is laminated photo glued in the correct spot

That would be a little too meticulous for me. I'm a close enough kind of hobbyist in this regard.

Hey Jase,

Well I couldn't have got this far without your generosity. I'm glad this has eventuated into something usable and slick with a bit of determination. Of course, this may never end.

I see a wire coming from the joystick base. Are you going to use it for anything? Somewhere the handle for it must have fallen out, it only requires something like a piece of threaded rod with a handle on it and it could be a gear lever again - or whatever!

Hi Jase,

Actually I'm using this as a temporary solution for my com radio dial (has a knob and potentiometer) until I figure out how to make a proper com/nav panel. I also have made a gear lever from the bits you gave me, and added two micro switches to it. Will post a pic soon.

Next job though will be the flight yoke, I have one ordered through eBay 2nd hand from a Beechcraft C-23 incl the steel shaft and I will fit this to the system
Cheers

Kelvin

The comm nav panel is easy enough - if you dont care to have a display readout on it. If you want to just have the knob then you have a couple of options.

One is to have the dual concentric rotary encoder so part of it changes left of the decimal and the higher part of the knob changes right of the decimal. Leo is the only guy I know that stocks these to buy http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?ma...products_id=196 $15gbp so that is a bit of dosh.

Otherwise you just put two rotary encoders on it , two knobs but who cares if thats what you want.

If you want a replica of a specific aircraft then you will need to get the right knob and I can laser cut the panel for you, that way it looks like the real thing. Only problem is that if you want the right colour, i.e. not black it costs a lot of $$ to get it. At least to do it the way I do it.

You could always just paint a paintl and then laser engrave it, that would do OK as well as long as you dont get cheezel fingers all over it all the time.

Thanks for the info. I will probably go for the concentric encoders from Leo Bodnar. For now though, I want to focus on the yoke then the pedals. i'm trying to work out how i'm going to design the yoke system and what bearings/other parts I will need. I wanted to look at a force feedback yoke but not sure how much the motors will cost. Jase, maybe you could provide some assistance? I'm trying to compare how much it would be to approach an engineering outfit compared to how much you might charge if you would take on such a venture wink.gif

Snap !!! .. great timing, thanks for the info. I've been shopping around for these for a home coms panel and have been having trouble finding one with knobs to match.
Does anyone else based in NZ want to combine an order for these soonish? Am looking at ordering inside the next week, we could split the 9-pound delivery?

Had been looking at some similar offerings here, a little pricer tho...

I am considering getting two of these encoders for a dual nav/com panel but won't be able to look at purchasing until Wednesday/Thursday next week to make sure my overtime $$ goes in otherwise I won't have any play money to play with pirate.gif

I am waiting for my Beechcraft C-23 Yoke and shaft to arrive before I can start the yoke so maybe I'll do the panel in the meantime as my yoke is taking forever to come. Seems quicker ordering from UK than USA.

Hehe, sweet as, let's connect again next Thursday aye?
Oh, and just so yaz know, I'm having a crack at building a sort of universal COM/NAV/DME panel with an Arduino behind it. Yeah prolly been done a thousand times before, I dont care smile.gif
