Crikey , the US of A's bad guys would be loving this ... if it affects research ... what about other departments regarding the criminals.

US to suspend Antarctic research

American scientists have been ordered to prepare to close their big research bases in Antarctica, including McMurdo Sound, as the United States government shutdown drains their budget.

It's likely hundreds of scientists and support staff will be evacuated next week to Christchurch as McMurdo, the Amundsen-Scott Base at the South Pole and Palmer Station on the Antarctic Peninsula are put onto caretaker basis.

Gawd what a line up but Timmy is well away from home but i guess the biggys would be based at Christchurch .

According to CAA Vector Sep/Oct 13 Edition The Multi's will be based at Whenuapai & Ohakea.

Military Exercise From 8 to 29 November 2013, there is a significant military exercise taking place at and around Timaru aerodrome, but throughout the country there will be increased traffic and low level flying. In conjunction with the exercise at Timaru, visiting Air Forces will be doing doing low-level navigation exercises throughout New Zealand.
This will involve a variety of Medium to large military aircraft flying at low Level in the Canterbury & Otago districts. The aircraft will be based at Whenuapai and Ohakea and will be visiting Timaru daily.

Shutdown ends, but some US Antarctic research still frozen
Operation IceBridge , which tracks yearly changes in the polar ice sheets, will likely go ahead, but with fewer flights. This was the first year the research mission planned to fly a P-3B plane out of Antarctica's McMurdo Station instead of taking off from Punta Arenas, Chile.

"At this point everyone is trying to assess the impact on the deployments and determine the best way forward," said IceBridge project scientist Michael Studinger. "We have more questions than answers but we should know more sometime next week, hopefully. Both NASA and NSF are committed to enable a shortened McMurdo deployment if possible."

But pleased with the target acquire with mine , this C17 being well over a kilometer away ... missed the F27 on its side , maybe Greg has one to show !

It's still a bit early here, which must be why I read Hamilton West's post as 'NASA is bringing their P-38' laugh.gif

Well while Ian was shooting me and watching the water fight I was experimenting, this is one of the results:
Sorry that it might be a bit large but I have reduced it in size quite a bit in an effort to make it fit, it's a compromise between being large enough so you can see what I was trying to do but also small enough so it doesn't take too long to download - I suspect that this might still be on the too large size for some.

Don't forget to scroll sideways as well as up and down!
