Well , at least ive got the wings dry.gif .... and Im still waiting for the cockpit for my C/S Tristar ..... must shop more carefully in the future.

SplitPin, I would not hold your breath for an upgrade, never seen JUST upgrade any of their stuff. I have parked the DC-8 in the hangar, too many bugs, is very frame heavy and fluky between screen changes, as for the aircraft it is out of whack, too much power behaves like a fighter not a jet transport and I have some bugs that no amount of reinstalls and emails too and from their support people have rectified, namely the HSI which wont function. I am not sure whether to have a go a doing some mods myself but at the moment it will have to wait until a 50 series model is available and I can get AIRNZ and JAL paints for it.

There is a upgrades and models to be released , on my system found worked sweet with regard to f/rates , HSI did function but not sure what may have happened, I don't think this has been rushed, more released find where the boundary's lie, XP was a trap since you only use little RAM to what you can use with Win7.

They maybe not fighter aircraft but the best example of how the type was used and some of the stories are well known for being nimble in its own right and the reason why it was chosen for those duties. The type had slightly different flight characteristics compared to a 707 but it also had its attributes.

Don't get me wrong about the DC-8. Have been waiting since I went over to FSX in 2010 for the 8, besides the 727 probably my favourite jetliner. I AM JUST VERY VERY DISSAPOINTED with the quality of this payware machine.

Compared to the JF 146 this seems just well unfinished and badly in need of some patch work. Stuff like; no cabin, no wing views or engine views and the irregular cockpit frames if you try to pan back and across are pretty ordinary! The click and grab dials are a pain and just unresponsive to my mouse without highly exaggerated mouse or arm movements. The ASI speed bugs are flaky and take for ever to set, there are no tables to calculate takeoff speeds for weight and temps, the dual VOR indicators are cr@p and there was no APU on most DC-8's. I find the AP highly erratic and at times it just wont cooperate with mouse clicks and changes etc. Some of the engineers controls are back to front. On my installation, the rudder pedals sit fully deflected and never move with control inputs, very untidy! The ground response when taxying is terrible it bobs about like a toy boat not a 150,000 lb jet on a wide bogey undercarriage. Airborne it is ok and seems to handle allright but the thrust to weight ratios are completely out of whack at a full load on an ISA+20 day you would never get 4000 fpm plus rate of climb. The AI pitch bars are difficult to read.

I can only compare this model to the Capt Sim 707 its contemporary in time and there is no comparison, with either functionality, fideity, finish or overall presentation, I just cant believe when they had the opportunity to produce a really great model and the groundwork was done that they would release it like this. Most of the VC and exterior is fine for example and there are some nice touches like the ground carts and stairs but the rest is quite frankly cr@p. My opinion is also shared by a 20 year DC-8 driver for real at another forum.

I guess the wait will continue for a quality DC-8 might as well go back to the HJG DC-8's they were very good if they have no VC.

I ve read some of the missing feels, I looked at the model externally for starters , that is one thing that is simply superb but for a few cosmetic items and heard they are getting addressed , early days off the DC-8s mention also showed other variants and looking at cost i can see why it was broken down into separate packages , a T.E.A.L/Air New Zealand Scheme is one ive been playing with , thing is knowing that David 'Dax' Sweetman s work will be a hard act to follow far as a paint is concerned .

Looking at the cost - crikey its only a third of the cost of the CS-707 , I brought that for both FS9 and FSX and you mentioning it happened to look at it tonight , internal textures with a CS model have this very unique and simply impressive appeal but to have a stablemate from the same period to sit beside it from the time would make for some brilliant screens, I believe this one may put its self into the FS books as one to get , one thing pointed out is the gestation period - one year compared to a possible three to four year period.

Well that's right guys, it is the only DC-8 for FSX and there is lots of really good stuff that make it worthwhile and one can only hope there are some fixes and patches to make it better, after all I have the JustFlight BAE146 and it is simply excellent. I am not sure why they rushed this one out and I have no explanation for why it is so heavy on FPS and screens compared to say the Capt Sim 707 or 727 which run flawlessly on my machine and have a reputation for being memory hogs and needing high end systems.

We shall wait for the 50 and 60 series to appear before final judgment. In the meantime time to look at some of the aircraft config data and some other stuff to see what is going on.
