Hope you weren't expecting to see a flying machine...

These are pics of Godzone 'Real New Zealand' Supercity (Auckland) in P3D2 with REX evening weather. The elevations aren't right yet, so North Head (second pic, foreground), an ancient volcano and once proud fortress against Russian invasion, looks rather like a pancake that went wrong, but when OrbX releases their North Island P3D2 installer shortly that should sort out the elevations. The first pic shows Mount Eden in the foreground, also a volcano and the highest point in central Auckland. Coming from Birmingham, England, I find it a stunning-looking city and I think this scenery sometimes captures it. Very easy to install into P3D2, - you just copy the file from FSX into P3D2 and then activate it in the library.

Thanks! It's only been out a week, but with OrbX supporting it and PMDG and no doubt others, not to mention the fact that Lockheed Martin are developing it so it's supporting itself, I'd say it has a bright future.

They are rather good at making toys for boys... I'm sure we can trust them with this.

I know. Just the other day I was playing with my Trident missiles (don't tell anyone: you're not supposed to use them for entertainment) but they kept going over the fence. rolleyes.gif

MDK was a fun game for sure. Lots of games these days have nukes in them, - Half-Life (my 13 yr old cut his teeth on that), Fallout 3. Loads more, I think.

P3D2 is actually owned by a company that makes atom bombs, which might give some people in this country pause for thought. On the other hand you could argue that no-one has ever been harmed by one of LM's nuclear weapons (AFAIK) or that the NZ Air Force buys their C-130s and Orions. We might even buy their Hellfire missiles, - not sure about that. They certainly made some jollly good classic planes in their time, - the Connie, the Electra, the Tri-star, the Maurauder, not to mention F16s, F22s and F35s. Just because they make atom bombs doesn't mean they're not lovely people unsure.gif .

Maybe an idea with the good ole 'bucket of sunshine' low yield of course on a "maybe we brought a hellfire" and accidently fire it at the people who keep saying "I don't recall"

That's pretty advanced Ianglish but I sort of know what you mean. clapping.gif

Here are a couple more of the Supercity scenery in P3D2. The first one is the west coast going north towards the Manukau Harbour entrance and the second is Piha. The arrow points to where Lion Rock (a very prominent volcanic plug) is supposed to be, - it shows as a dark smudge on the beach. This is the elevation thing again, - no reflection on Supercity or P3D2, which uses the old FSX elevations and textures. You just need to buy 3rd party scenery such as OrbX North Island (soon to be given a P3D2 installer) and the heights will be transformed. There might be other meshes available for free but I can't see the point if you have ugly basic scenery (P3D2 uses the default FSX scenery).

I notice that P3D2 sometimes has a bluish tinge about it (bearing mind that these pics are of 6pm lighting), which is more apparent in screenshots than when you're actually flying. Might just be my current selection of REX textures: Toprob's screenshots (see Godzone support forum) don't have it. It might also relate to their HDR lighting and it will probably be addressed in the future (everything's possible because it's still in development). Also, you can see the 'academic license' text at top right. I guarantee you are never aware of it when you're flying and I don't recommend paying an additional US$150 to get rid of it unless you really are a professional pilot who wants to donate money to the US military-industrial complex. If you're a professional pilot with a conscience, you could buy the academic license and donate the $150 to an elephant sanctuary in Thailand or some such (or just keep it).

Yeah ... still trying to figure it out myself , I'll get there one day , one thing both yourself and Rob screens have pointed out - It has enhanced autogen details to a pre FSX SP1/SP2 , those many years ago i put in the FS2004/FS9 scenery into FSX when first released , it work and looked a treat, still have screens here of eight nine years back somewhere here but it looks as if P3D has reversed and gone a different wait build and generating a more vibrant AGN .

I'm still pretty happy with the overall "feel" of my FS9.5 install.
But my NEXT sim must look like this:

I'm waiting...

I think we'll get there, and if P3D is anything to go by, it won't be a long wait. Looking at your photo, there are a few hurdles to overcome first, though.
Not only would be need a much better mesh, and am improved way of handling near-vertical mesh, such as the cliffs.
We'd need a huge breakthrough in textures, at the moment we can choose between a generic land-class approach, or photographic. If we had 5,000 different landclasses, or seamless, shadowless, aerial photos, we'd be halfway there....
Water is going to be just as tricky -- until the sim can accurately render 10 metre waves, we'll not even come close. The current sims really don't even come close to rendering great water, your photo shows a range from almost pure cyan through to a greeny-blue, but I've never seen the sim come close to this -- it seems to treat the sea as all blue.
Of course the real hurdle is the display technology -- until we have direct stimulation of the brain, or the ultimate full-motion home sim, we'll always be looking at the world 1280 pixels at a time...

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, - might be the most realistic option until we get the multitude of hurdles fixed rolleyes.gif .

Or, just appreciate what technology and gifted individuals have been able to achieve so far and fill in the rest with our imagination.

Here you go Charl this is a quick shot of the unfinished top end of D'urville Island.
this is from the 2011 2013 Marlborough high density aerial photos.
It FSX with ORBX NZSI the pick is showing where the photo scenery joins the ORBX all we need now is for a decent sea to go with it
