Steel, That's a F3 model , already drawn in the gun ports on the nose .. that is so freaky .. and so damn cool , the variant i recall from Avonhead primary school library book tho think that was 'Firebirds' ?

Firebirds were 56sqn This is my repaint for a Mk1. the model correctly shows no external ducts but is wrong in giving it a uhf blade.

Off course the Missile is another give away , but this is the squadron banner i planned and worked on , I went to a grounded drawing trying to capture the servicing pre flight and ready to roll , rather what i recalled those forty years ago .. those were airborne and captured my imagination - this brain case still recalls that .. the squadron banner was a Red - White checker board .. least that was what i thought i can remember , it was not a photo but a great painting from someone of the period .

Great screens, nothing like it on the planet.
Purpose-made: go up, fast.
A machine that inspires awe (different I think from awesome).
SO sorry I never got to Thunder City for the ride.

Oh yes ..... great screens Gents , and photo from steel . I have every(i think) Lightning available for fs and love them all.... but the two seaters from the alpha hanger still drop my flaps, as old as they are.
Still owe you a screen steel , must get onto it.

Hmmm thunder city... as much fun as going straight up fast in the lightning would have been, to me, the idea of going flat out at under 100 feet on a mission against a dam or industrial complex in the back of the buccaneer sounds much more fun
