As you said when your number is up .. that's its .
Thats true Ian , but that aircraft appears to only have collapsed landing gear. Granted the photo is taken from a fair distance away , but all the rotors look fine , and airframe intact... and no sign of fire.

Not sure what that is in the foreground .Last edited by Splitpin on Fri Jan 10, 2014 8:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Maybe .... im no expert, but looking at those rotors it appears to have hit the ground with power off .... but the lack of damage would indicate from not very high, so why four dead ?
But as i said , those pics are from some distance , so actual damage may not be apparent.
I repeat , im no expert , and i dont speculate , but its odd.

Its sad to think that such an intact looking airframe , left 4 dead , and yet a person survived that horrific Kingair crash in Iceland .
I guess when your number comes up .....

I believe that the pictures show debris from possibly something else that may have crashed as well as the helicopter. The seats are designed to take heavy landings:QUOTEThe helicopter has the ability to absorb high-impact velocities. The fuel system is crash-resistant and self-sealing. The crew seats and the landing gear are energy absorbing.[/quote]

Arrr yes but if they are "buckroo's" and not strapped in , a heavy landing is going to cause a whole lotta hurt !

Cheers SUBS17 .... its confusing . I was really starting to think i had misunderstood the whole thing , and that , the "debris field" was the crash site , and the hawk on the ground had nothing to do with it. But that aircraft has landed hard and sustained (at least) landing gear damage hasn't it ?
I wonder what else crashed there ? Ive been in a Huey at Wigram that force landed , it was a rough ride , the skids were bent on "landing" (only found out when we tried to put the wheel jacks on , and they wouldn't fit) but besides us all needing fresh underwear , we all walked away with nothing more than a few bruises .
I can still clearly see both pilots getting as low as possible in their seats just before the impact , a big concern is that whole transmission will move and tip the rotor down through the roof of the cockpit . Im not sure if the HH60 would be the same ... and going by the available photos they appear to be able to take a good whack ..killing the occupants , but remaining in tact ...odd.
Anyway , im getting off topic .... but i will follow this one as best i can .

"Splitpin , you dork ! Of course you cant see any damage to the aircraft in the pictures ... because their isnt any! Consider the scene , a beach . The helo has settled down a little , thats all.
The photos are long distance , what appears to be damage to the landing gear is a combination of distance , the structure itself and the gun hanging slightly down.
The "apparent" dedris field , is just that ...the crash site. Why and how could live ammunition be spread over a football field size area if it came from the pictured aircraft ?
And why are the body recovery team working so far away from the aircraft ? because , you numb nut , that one didnt crash.
Stop trying to find something thats not there , read all the facts , study the photos .... sort your poo out , silly old fart."
I think i can safely say , i got the wrong end of the stick , and ran with it this timeIm amazed that you all let me run for so long
or maybe ........
I read that and really added to my day ... you "silly old fart"

From what I recall its 20+Gs that they can take although they may not have been strapped in or been inside the aircraft when the crash happened.
