Activation

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Pato » Thu Jan 16, 2014 12:26 pm

I have FSX and Acceleration installed and activated. I want to install it on another computer that I have, but am not sure if I can Activate it on two computers.
Can anyone advise please?.

Not a lawyer, but I would say that would be a very clear "No"
If you had to pay for it, and with X-pack you do, chances are you're not entitled to install it on more than one machine

Yes, I just bought it. I guess if I uninstalled it from one PC I could could then reinstall it on my other PC?.

I have done so on another PC whilst one was in the shop so i could continue with projects , scenery aircraft painting , FS2004 I was able to run a multiplay on 3 pc's , one as the control tower and other in communication .. FSX did run on two PC's before the service packs , my three computers back then were one , one just happen to be a module, but frankly running it on the old machine looks BLOODY HORRID ! for what reason the change in law regard to operating your own program on another PC while the other is out off action is DOUBLE TALK .

So you didn't have any trouble with Activation on the second computer. Why do Microsoft treat everyone like pirates, it is beginning to give me a pain in the rear.

No problem, just run it with only one PC running - you can't MP with it - that required the second copy but least i could work with it when the primary PC is in the shop.

I've run two copies with multiplay (but it was only on our home network) while I was introducing someone else to the pleasures of FSX and multiplay. He has since purchased his own copy and we still multiplay but now via the internet. Maybe I was lucky but possibly it was because the two activations were at quite separate times.

Last Time I tried to do that it failed and had to ring Microsoft due to the number of times I'd installed FSX, due to faults/ reconfigs / changing machines etc.

Explained the situation that was installing on a laptop for when I was away from home and was told to read the EULA it is for a single machine... so got the gold pack to install on the laptop now I've now got it on 2 machines with a license for each machine.

Not the answer you want I'm sure but that's the EULA.
Takeoff's are optional. Landings are mandatory.

Looking at it I have FSX on three PC's over the years, again would run it on the laptop .. put on the machine as a backup in the case i had to go to hospital again , frankly i would not use it due to quality tho its still better than some member screens ... fact is you still can install it on many pc's.

I guess it is just a case of giving it a try and see what happens. It appears that some have activated ok and others haven't.
An interesting discussion anyway. (Why does my Post show 08.31pm when it is 09.31am?)

That explains it. As a matter of interest. How have you set up your Folders in FS. So far I have just loaded FSX and left it under the normal MS/Games etc.
Next I intend to load VLC or perhaps Orbx. I was going to make a Folder FSX Addons or something similar? I guess anyway is the right way eh?.

You would find ORBX and VLC create there own sub-folders, and any other scenery I put into and use FSX "Addon Scenery" folder, easy one stop shop so to check you listings or fave scenery.

Thats what I had in mind. Thanks for your help. This is like starting all over again and when you get a bit long in the tooth you tend to forget things!!
