Hi guys
Lately i have been looking to try something new and have heard nothing but good things about Prepare3D, can anyone explain the advantages and strengths of this program over fsx to me?

The main difference is that FSX is dead -- there will be cosmetic improvements for a while yet, but the code itself is fixed and won't ever change. On the other hand, Lockheed Martin seem really committed to developing Prepar3D.
On the other hand for a lot of people a well-developed FSX install is a lot more valuable than a new sim with nothing but potential.
Prepar3D currently has a few issues, many of which will hopefully be fixed in a patch due out very soon.

I've recently moved entirely to P3Dv2 since I had to rebuild my laptop.
It performs better and looks better than FSX, though I do have to be careful not to have settings too high.
Downside for me is that almost all my ORBX scenery is not yet compatible (officially), but they are working on it.
Yes, P3Dv2 has some really annoying faults and it crashes more than I think my FSX did, but LM are developing it and, as stated, a patch is due within the next couple of weeks and that should fix an awful lot. Since FSX is no longer being developed, and P3Dv2 is, I am happy to move forward with it, warts and all.
(after all; just think back to how bad most versions of FSX were right out of the box!)

The patch fix list is huge: should be good.
...and once that is out ORBX/PILOTs will be releasing the update Vector and a bunch of other stuff.
Vector update is due on the weekend of 22nd Feb

Thanks guys, i'll probably consider moving to P3D, have had an endless stream of problems with fsx so it might be a good idea! Hopefully Orbx scenery will become compatible with the patch considering i have always used it!

P3D , PREPAR whatever .... Who cares , as long there are clouds ,

Ahhhh , i feel a little sorry for all of you who seek the flight simulation nirvana ... always chasing the "next big thing" . I understand the desire to remain at the cutting edge , but the edge (for me ) never stops moving, so why bother.
This guy is happy with FSX, SP Whatever , and long may REX live .

Im not knocking anybody , or anything ..... i admire your enthusiasm , and respect the talent , but i guess ive reached my saturation point .... so here , i will sit

Enjoy the race.... i think a lot of you will see things i just dreamt about ....Im! seeing stuff i could only dream about , and now Ive got it.

Marty, you and Ian should come over some time to check out P3D -- just bring your sense of humour, an open mind, and a couple of beers.

Nah I'm with Marty. There's plenty of life left in the old FSX girl yet.
I tend to invest big for about 4-years then make a break, I reckon I'm about 2.5 years into that cycle now w FSX after doing that previously on FS9.

The beer does sound appealing tho

Going a wee bit off topic here (sorry Rob) .... but deeknow , yes there are a few of us.
Ian and i were talking the other day about just that .... the Air Force museum would be a great venue , i and Ian have good contacts there.
And if confirmed (CHC) we could arrange a visit to ferrymead and the ANZ hanger at Harewood.
I have contacts with a couple of local transport providers as well .

Anyway .......way off topic ...... sorry Rob.

Rob, not trying to poke my oar in (well, trying but politely I hope) seeing as I have toyed with the idea of P3D too I would be interested in taking a look see too. I can also provide beer if that's a deciding factor!!
