Used to do it with Hueys ... no spray , winch a guy or two down , rip it out and load it onboard.
I have clear mental pictures of cabins 100% full of the stuff ... going home with green fingers and seeds in your boots , i think we sowed more seeds than the growers. That downwash from the rotors pushed them way down in the dirt (seeds)
On the south canterbury hunts , any "catch" was taken to Timaru hospital and burnt in their furnace after the cops did their bit .
The whole thing was a waste of time really , we would arrive on day one .... do a recce with the local law , find the plots , and retire to the hotel for the night. Next morning fly out and find .... nothing, all dug up over night. Now and again we would find a good plot , mostly under or near power lines , along with all the irrigation gear.
Some of these guys went to great trouble to conceal the crop , from the ground anyway. I remember being on the ground with a local Oamaru cop looking at a solid wall of gorse .... behind which, were about 500 mature plants , being watered and feed .... but only seen from above.

Only had one instance when a dude pointed a shotgun at the aircraft , the pilot was onto it real quick , and the guys on the ground got him .

Ahhhh , the good old days ... all gone now i guess , since the cops learnt to fly winkyy.gif

They should be able to hall out a hell of a lot more with a NH, but I funny a funny susception not this early in there debut, a whooping great six and a half ton Helicopter may be a little more costly and last thing adding to the mix is overhead cables .

Cheers Ham .... good to see. I remember (always remembering) designing a patch for 3 Det "dope busters" .... never got it made , but the proof hung on the wall for a long time , its more than likely somewhere in the museum now.
