Ahh the old 74. "If you build it, I'll buy it..." Thank you Juan Tripp wub.gif

Saw the China Southern and Jetstar Dreamliners come in at AKL the other day, must say on landing they weren't very distinguishable from a 76 till they got closer but I can't wait to take a trip on ours when it arrives...

I hope they bring it into Christchurch to display it on its debut, be good to compare footage of the Chinese series.

Its always been an airliner thing at Boeing, the is completed with logo, this go's back as early as the 74s on the shop floor, was the first to identify plane and customer , simply made it easier for the paint crews.

Hmmm....thats not what they told us on the tour when I went there late last year...

Sometimes, well many times public relations get it wrong, or make it easy for Joe public to understand, generally every airline is assigned some sort of reference on the factory floor, always been a standard practice with very much all aircraft manufactures.

As I was taxying onto the gate at AKL yesterday I took a good look at a 777 being pushed off an adjacent gate. It was boasting the new paint scheme. I have to say that I was totally unimpressed.
The font used for Air New Zealand looks dated and dull in being just black. Also the fern and Koru at the back just looked far too busy and the black white was utterly boring and forgettable.
It is a real shame they dumped the blue. Much better liveries were proposed that were distinctive yet elegant.
The current effect looks like something that was produced on a 1980's Xerox black and white copier.
That black wont look so sharp when it starts to oxidise.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Agree 100% , so many other up to date options . Something not right about a black airliner.

I think they are just keeping the minds open after the Clean Green Blue New Zealand Image and replace with the Rena Black muck and cr@p oil spill.

I don't know... shoehorning "Missing Boeing MH370" into the rollout of a new plane...
The "little propeller" (shot of the RAT deployed) that can "guide the plane down if all engines fail".
Whew.
