RNZAF P-3B tail insignia / decals needed urgently

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Adrian Brausch » Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:45 am

Heya fellas , Jens-Ole Kjølberg has been busy working on a mid life grey / white scheme RNZAF P-3B that is in the works,..we are in urgent need of good or excellent high res tail decals of the white Albatross, blue roundel and red 5 insignia.....any help will be much much appreciated !

Also need pictures of the sonobuoy launcher on the B from the outside..

Can anyone confirm whether the sonobuoy launcher has been removed altogether with the P-3K ?...photo's would lend that to be true but then we are in need of good close up photos to do this ....

I do have stickers here somewhere, not sure if I have the Kestrel - I ll have a look , I have also just phoned Wigram Museum, just your luck the guy that could dig that tail insignia is down in Wanaka with the RNZAF crew.

After the missing MH370 they were throwing buoys out the door ? but in the book "Kiwi Orion's" shows the shoot for when the aircraft is preasurised so not sure about the latest update .

Thanks a lot! The plan is to include one 60s repaint in the main B pack and then a K late 80's/early 90s for the B "updates" pack together with a Norwegian p-3N.

Another question, do any of you know the new triangular decal seen on Orion propeller blades? Back in the days it was just the hamilton standard badge, but on newer blades there is a new decal. For me it might seem like a danger decal which conforms to the ISO warning signs. Very similar to the laser warning sign which is on the AN/PEQ-2a ir aiming laser I have on my military HK416.

Hello again,

Another question; was the NZ Orions delivered with the RAF D roundel?

The pic bellow is labelled 1966 and shows all 5 with the RAF roundel.
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/423127327460735364/

So a 1966 scheme should have RAF D roundels, RAF font "0X" (x=ac nr) painted on nose and tail (no 5 sqn logo on tail)? When was the NZ roundel painted on the aircraft?

Yes indeed it was standard RAF roundel and font, the aircraft had the fern added in 1967 - these change when replacing the markings with the kiwi in 1973

Thanks for the answers! I hope you can help me with another question as well! What was the correct name/designation for RNZAF Base Auckland in 1966? (for the aircraft.cfg file info and readme)

Jens, I put the word out about the propeller markings here to see if we get a response as I still won't get a reply from Wigram for a couple of days

Thanks for the scenery heads up!

Back to my cfg entry:

Lockheed P-3B (LW) Orion "NZ4202" (152887) of 5 Sqn RNZAF, based at Whenuapai AB in 1966.

Sounds right?
