Not quite a Raptor .. but

“They're continuing to discover cracks. They're continuing to discover areas they need to fix. And if those costs are on the Australian government, then even a fixed-price contract doesn't tell you what you will pay for the planes because, of course, they're not fully done until you fix them.â€￾

Similar problems happened with the F-111 45 years back, the US of A lending F-4 Phantoms to fill the gap till 1973, maybe a Raptor could be lent smile.gif

You're quite right Ian, senior moment there. For the benefit of future (confused) readers the original heading said Raptors for Oz. I'll stick with F-35 as there was really only one Lightning, and I don't mean P-38.

What with DAS and IHDMS, which is going to be more obsolete, the aircraft or the driver?

Whats IHDMS? I know what EO DAS is though. F35 needed for oz because of whats happening in Spratlys etc and other places like Ukraine.

I can see why the USA might convince them to get involved in the South China Sea but Ukraine is total BS, that's just a USA beat-up on behalf of commercial interests.

Its not Aussies involvement in such conflicts but the need for aircraft like the F35 to counter what the Chinese and Russia has although the Superhornet is an extremely good aircraft the Chinese also now have stealth aircraft. BTW whats happening in Ukraine is a step back towards the cold war so its good to have aircraft that are advanced technology so that if a conflict should arise then they are prepared for it.

lol that describes an epic disaster movie, the world would wind up like in Idiocracy. biggrin.gif But we'd still have F35s to save the day.
