I miss the sound of the Argosy's 4 dart engines on full power climbing out of Woodbourne but I still hear the F27 every week night just after 9pm climbing out of Woodbourne especially when Tim Sutherland is on as he always levels out at about 1500ft and changes course over our way to fly over Redwoodtown as a goodnight to his kids before climbing out and heading North

I remember the sound of the Wheelbarrow's 4 darts, and the sound of the Viscount's 4 darts, and the 2 darts on the HS748, and needless to say, the 2 on the F27.
Sounds (and sights), that i remember fondly like it was only yesterday.
You lucky devil you Doug, getting to hear the sound of Darts every night. I envy you !!

Nah,..... didnt forget the Andover,......... i kind of lumped that in with the HS-748.
Yes,...... they are a dying sound these days,......... All the more reason for those that have never seen , or heard them, to take the opportunity to experience the sight
and unique sound of one these machines, before they are gone forever. The Dart was a revolution, and a revelation. Look what it started..............
As did many of the aircraft that used RR Dart power plants, they revolutionised the airline industry, particularly the Viscount and the incredibly successful F27 Friendship

The 2 greatest aviation mechanical sounds ever created by man, that turned a propeller, ( in my humble opinion).......... and they are both by Rolls Royce.
The DART, and the MERLIN !!!

Dart is pretty much going simply the cost and more very little spares for them for an airline to run them, expensive to run now by compare to today's turbos.

Interesting Visitor today in my lunch hour - NZ7004

Talked to an RNZAF guy and he said that they are going to use Nelson as a training base for the CT4's - unsure how long for though - also said that there will be an open day coming up - next Saturday he thinks

Thanks Marty - yeah I just love that Herc! it came in again yesterday to drop off a trailer, and it sat on the tarmac with engines running smoke still coming out at idle!

Frankly I don't no much about cameras , got myself a goodie , old days it was a OLYMPUS "TRIP 35 " , pretty robust , heading out of Wanganui it dropped from the pack on the bike .. years after it still had dust and fluff on the outside of each photo .. I look after my new camera like .. I look after it like dinner . smile.gif
