Anyone familiar with using mklink

http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...3&hl=mklink

I just tried to use it to move ORBX out of the FSX directory.
Copied the ORBX directory to another drive.
Used the link command pointing it to the new location.
All looked good, but it didn't work for me.
FSX started up saying all those scenery areas were missing.

Obviously done something wrong, or is there something else you have to do as well.

I was hoping to move the SimObjects folder as well.

I think that copying a folder might give weird results, as you'll end up with two folders with the same name. So move the folder, then create the simlink.

Sorry should have said, copied the ORBX folder to new location, then renamed the ORBX folder in FSX to ORBX_old

Rock biggrin.gif , to think this were I was Ostrich-sized mentioning ORBX switches and how corrupt and non infailable they were or surposed to be . .. I tried to mention this tho I did get a little response in the early days fell flat .... as a scenery developer back then ...

Ostrich .. may as well been , I just was to buried my head in the sand ( computer paper - modern shite) ..... Just don't mention 'Adolf Hilter' and "If I ruled the world ", a few people don't like that .. Least I had the BALLS to say it and wanted change - But soon as you have an 'O' box scenery .. you need to start buying the addon's

Did I mention about ruling the virtual world ... Hang on .. Ill re read rolleyes.gif

Just to be clear, where did you create the link?

Hmm , If you have very early add on from ORBX , it created a few issues , as they released more and more of Australia 'the four colour' if you own those areas and had them running on your PC they will and did affect any photo-real scenery build , this go's five plus years back - least have to check ..

Then if your are going to make scenery - the first time I picked this up was working on Mikes 'Hamilton X' .. little blue and yellow corner shop diary's I called them . FACT was ORBX grabbed the region texture sheet and mucked it up .. Basic .. I rule the world .

To fix the issue across the board if you design or want to create a photo real scenery with gable roofs you have to buy the GLOBALX !

This is a fairly recent FSX installation.
The only scenery addon is ORBX.

The link was created in a program called console2
Command I used was mklink /j "ORBX" "E:\FSX\ORBX"

Just wondering if I may have left the quotes off the end of the command line.
Guess there is no way to go back & check now.
I'll re-write another command & see how that goes.

There are different types of links. What type did you create? By default the MKLINK command makes a soft link. Have a look at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/

It sounds like you need to use the /J switch to link folders.

Yep that fixed it, re-wrote the command mklink /j "ORBX" "E:\FSX\ORBX"

Fat fumbling fingers did it again.

Now to have a go with the SimObjects folder.

Thanks for your help guys.
