Plan-G

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Have been using Plan-G & getting more familiar with it.
I have it running on a second monitor outside the main fsx window.
I saw a reference to having a google map overlay but are unable achieve this as I have version 3.1.
I believe it was available in version 2.0.
Anyone familiar with this & could advise if it would be worth going back to ver 2.0 just to have this or better to stay with the later version.

Don't bother as Google have altered their API so that the map overlay no longer works with Plan-G V2 - well, that was when I last checked a few months ago but I think it unlikely that the plan-G developer will be putting any effort into updating his previous version.

Having been disappointed with Plan-G v3 when it was introduced some time ago as it did not contain the Google Maps, I reverted back to my Plan-G version 2.0.5 which does contain the Google Maps.
I have the Plan-G V 2.0.5 Installation exe. saved so that I can always re-install it again
(I use V2 on all my flights, (together with FS Tramp which fulfils the same purpose).

In the Plan-G Forum there is a link to the original installation exe. of Version 2!...have a search....but don't ask for it!!
...try here!...>>> http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1993.0 a link to the .exe!

Paul....never gets lost!....>>> Plan-G and FS Tramp.... biggrin.gif ...!

FS Tramp....(By the originator of FS Navigator)... winkyy.gif ...!
I have the payware upgrade which adds slightly more detail to the maps (ground elevation), but the freeware version is OK!.

http://www.fstramp.com/

(Plan-G V3 infringed the Google Satellite Maps copyright, so the Map option was removed by the programmer).
My Version 2 runs fine.... biggrin.gif ...!

Interesting. Your post prompted me to retry V2 of Plan-G and now it is working again. Not sure when that happened as for a long time no satellite images would show on my V2 without causing scripting errors and so that prompted me to go to V3 as I wanted some sort of satellite display. Now I will need to do some more testing to see if it is stable and then reconsider going back to V2 from V3.

Oops, just found the script errors are still there so that makes it non-usable as far as I am concerned so I guess I'll be staying with V3 (it has improved since the initial release of v3 but the lack of good satellite imaging is somewhat irksome!

Yes, when I tried it I was also getting script errors.

It could be because I have kept the original v2.0.5 installation .exe safely saved on a DVD, (always a good idea), so that each time I install it, it works OK...
It works fine on my FSX.
Maybe the Site owner has since modified the original file to prevent its use?

I gathered that Google wasn't happy with the Satellite Map (copyright) appearing on Version 2, which is why it didn't appear on version 3

FS Tramp is a good (free) alternative to show the ground terrain map during flight...>>> http://www.fstramp.com/

Paul....Googling my maps.... biggrin.gif ...!

P.S. Tip: When creating the database in version V 2.0.5, if the script error window pops up, try clicking your way through it a number of times, forcing the program to continue!.....
