Back with a Goose

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Wildbillkelso » Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:33 am

Hi, Guys!

After spending some time away from stick & rudder, I think it's time to get back on the track!

In March I bought a new rig and just was curious how good old FS9 would run with it.
I was a little disappointed, because my thoroughly migrated FS9 installation from my old XP machine just seems the same.
But then I went back to the shelf to look for my FSX DVD (still curious...):
Holy macaroni!
With all sliders maxed in FSX, this was a complete new world!

Next step was to push it even further:
OrbX NZSI got installed, first flight was scheduled from Milford Sound.
Once I got my dropped jaw re-adjusted (what a difference to FS9!), I decided to enter this simulated world again.
But now on the dark side!

And here's my first attempt to handle a FSX repaint:

(Shots taken at Great Barrier FTX NZNI)

This is of course the OZx Grumman Goose Redux. Since the graphic editor I'm still used to (PaintShopProX) wasn't able to handle the 4096x4096 HD textures, the main textures were done in 2048x2048. I'm pretty aware that Jon Murchinson already did the MOUNT COOK "DFC" for the FSX stock Goose, so I decided to depict the 1975's appearance with the Lily on the fin.
Makes a pretty couple with Jankees' "Sea Bee Goose": http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21595&hl=goose

More about ZK-DFC (and other Geese in NZ service):

http://rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/12018/go...mt-cook-service
http://nzcivair.blogspot.de/2012/12/i-remember-when.html

Still fiddling on some details, I'll drop a note once the paint is released on OZx first.

Cheers,
Markus (resurrected).

Thank you for this warm welcome, gentlemen!

Paint maniac as I am (again...), this Goose isn't of course the only bird joining my paint hut recently.
Although this one belongs to the family of gnawers:

The Aerosoft DHC-6 Twin Otter is quite outdated, but still fun to fly for sure!

Out soon - stay tuned!

Cheers,
Markus.

Looks Brilliant cool.gif , Areosoft has updated their Otter in the last year http://www.aerosoft.com/products/twin-otte...r-extended.html , I'm sure the paint will glue to it .

Thanks, mate - but sorry:
The recent, "extended" Twotter has a different texture mapping (just been checking that), so this repaint will be for the original 2008 release of the DHC-6 only!

Cheers,
Markus.

Yes and no... us FS9'ers have a treasure house of "Wild Bill" material to draw on.
We can share the love... smile.gif

Great to see you back in the game, Markus, great screens and I see you haven't lost your touch.

And, who knows? sometimes the FSX repaints can be transplanted into FS2004 as well, so we still live with a little flicker of hope!

Thanks for the commendation, mate!

In fact some repaints will work on both sims, such as the Aerosoft Beaver.
I'll keep it in mind!

By the way:
Salt Air's ZK-CGX just cries (do beavers cry?) for a repaint:

I been pulling everything out today, backing up files, but different mapping - good to know, I do believe there is a close contender over at OZx.

That's right.
It's the Milford Sound Sight Seeing ZK-TFS:

for the extended Twotter.

Cheers,
Markus.

Where can the OZx Goose base model be downloaded from? It does not seem to be in the OZx aircraft downloads.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

In your paint the wording along the side appears to be angled up, whereas in the original photo you provide it looks to me like the wording is level. The yellow stripe also seems to thin out near the nose on yours. Just a small critique, otherwise ace! smile.gif
