Absolutely fantastic evening flying with Ian, Dean, and Doug!
Here's two out of the three mentioned above in an A-4 Skyhawk formation. Ian's on the left, and Dean is directly in front.
Ian hosted, and the flight itself was as smooth as it gets, at least on my end. No stuttering from the other aircraft, meaning that the formation flying off of Ian's wing was brilliant!

NZFF members, you have to try FSX online with us sometime soon!

Look for more shots from Ian in the coming days.

Great stuff Sean for getting the multi-play organised today, and thanks to Ian and Doug for the company. Ruddy great fun, and a sweet machine (although I need to spend some more time in the A4 to avoid those embarrasing stalls smile.gif)

Here's some pics from me...

heading back to Ohakea

A4 lineup, in the shade (I didn't have Sean and Ian's texture loaded which is why they appear in USN livery)...

on the ground after the flight, Doug sneaking in at the top in his Blunty...

Looks like great fun. have never tried formation flying online. Must be a bit difficult if theres more than 200ms or so latency between people? i.e playing on an nz server from the states

Dean,

That's interesting that mine was showing up as a US livery, because I was flying with the same livery you were using. On my screen, you and I were using the more modern dark green version, and Ian was using the '80s livery.

Kamoflarj,

It was surprisingly smooth even though I'm connecting from half a world away. I locked my frames at 24 and didn't notice any stuttering or latency when forming up on the others for formation flights. Smooth as it gets!

Yeah she's great fun all right. Re the lag, I assume Sean was connected from the States and judging by how close the formations were at one point the lag didn't seem to great for him. Lag was non-existent locally as far as I could tell.

Yep, I didn't have my screenshot program running, and the shot I posted is probably the furthest echelon formation distance I had from Ian all night. For the majority of the time, I was in close/tight and experienced no noticeable lag or choppiness.
Additional interesting features included the fact that I could see when the others turned their white formation lights on or off, as well as engine smoke at high power settings.

I also managed to keep track of at least Dean and Ian without aircraft tags on, but I'm sure that comes with practice, and I've been flying combat sims often lately without tags.

I think the early stages you keep tags on , we did get rid off them many years back, but for newbie's it makes it friendlier for others to join, great thing tho with a Screenie .. YOU CAN put your offical name on the board !

Looks like a fun session- I must get my things set back up and come and join you for a scoot around smile.gif

Did anyone get down into the Manawatu Gorge? You could almost have a whole session dedicated to low level flight clapping.gif

I must say...I've NEVER flown multiplayer before in the FSX world! Sounds and looks like loads of fun! I'm a west coast USA guy so it might be difficult to get together...but I'm always up for a challenge! LOL. I'd need to be shown the ropes though...

Rick , not an issue, tho Team Speak is a requirement, you have Sean another few thousand miles to the East of ya, this last MP worked a treat me running using the IP LAN connection.

What makes TS essential was the quick turn around with fix's and getting up and running,... the instant chat able to click and fix.
