Is it really that bad? I wanted to use it for airliners mainly. One thing that concerned me is that I would be facing upwards, while looking down at the screen when using Overhead panels etc

I just tried it with a Zinertek VC addon for the LevelD767 (which prompted the initial enquiry about VCs) and boy does it look great! That FI 'hold the mouse wheel and move around' is invaluable. I also use the IFLy 737 and Flight 1 ATR and I'm confident that they will look great too. So thanks again.

Unfortunately not.

It works very well with the iFly 737. Use Shift + Enter to raise your eye height and Shift + Backspace to lower it. Using the mouse wheel you can move in and out. You can use this method to set up a really nice landing position so that you get a good view of the flight instruments and can just see the LH Engine instruments on the EICAS screen as well as a good view of the runway. I mainly use the 2D panels for setting everything up and the takeoff etc and maybe the VC in a bit of the cruise. 2D for the descent and then switch to the VC view I described earlier for the final approach and landing.
You will find that manipulating things like the FMC and even various autopilots are better with pop ups or 2D panels.

TrackIR is awesome, a little pricey especially the active version with the transmitter and receiver getup, but worth the extra $$$. I'm only a recent convert to VC as well after being a die-hard 2D fan but TrackIR has made that transition much easier.
I mainly fly airliners but TrackIR is amazingly cool in GA, gliders, anything low-and-slow or with a decent cockpit view.Deans repaints: http://www.deeknow.com/

So good as it is, 'I can personally say it puts my head in a spin' , not just for FS , so many other gaming programs, going back to FS supremely ideal for Helicopters.

On that note. Is anyone willing to let go of their TrackIR? ive had the 4 for years now but wondered how good the 5 was.Chris Maher

I liked TIR, but at that time there were not many good VCs around, although there are lots now. It was great for judging the turning points in a circuit, but it was very easy to become disorientated because there was no peripheral vision - and letting go with a big sneeze on short final could wreak all sorts of havoc.
The voice thing was good, but it was just too much trouble to teach it to understand my accent. It was a very good headset, but when combined with the pointy hat and the glasses it made me feel such an idiot that I soon abandoned them.
As for the glasses, they did provide 3D but only in every second line on the screen. After much hunting around the 'Net, I found that they relied on a function which was available in Nvidia cards, but not in Radeons, which I have always used. They could have mentioned that in their sales blurb.
My ideal now is either a Quintuple Head-to-Go, or maybe two Triple Heads-to-Go, when I can afford a machine to run them. Perfection would be one of those flexible plastic screens, about 12 x 2m, which I could wrap around to get peripheral vision, which would let me see just when I "get into the saucer" , which is when you start the flare.
One day...
