This is where a screenshot really doesn't do it justice, as it doesn't show the clouds going by...

I still have to put the photo/screen and it would a good compare - FSX tho, frames always set at 20FPS

FSX on my system gives much better FPS than P3D, that's for sure. Doing this same flight in FSX gives me 75 -- 98 FPS. But it is a bit likely comparing apples to genetically enhanced, super-apples -- P3D looks 100 times better.

Might pay to wait as there a few issues with 2.3. No FSUIPC for starters and a few issues with other add ons. Give it a few days to settle down. Also dont apply the patch if you have installer the flight planner hotfix.

Interesting, I just updated to the 2.3 patch and bought the MJC Q400 and am stoked with my FPS - a solid 25-30 (locked at 30) on my relatively modest HP laptop (i7, 8gb Ram, Nvidia GT740M). FSX was giving me 12-15fps and not looking anywhere near as good before I decided to uninstall it permanently.

Yours looks great Robin, do you use some kind of weather addon or is that default?

A very good question, which I had to think about for a minute -- I use Rex Essential cloud textures, and sometimes Rex real weather, but this shows the 'building storms' default theme, with Rex clouds. No other Rex textures, though, I like the default sky in P3D.

Rob after you patched (or reinstalled) do you have an AffinityMask=14 (or other) in your P3D config under [JOBSHEDULER].
Cheers
Steve

No, I don't have a [JOBSHEDULER] section at all.

Ok so the patch didn't touch the config file. From what I have read 2.3 does not need an affinity mask.

Here I was twiddling last night and I thought the [JOBSHEDULER] and AffinityMask=14 , these were standards to type into the FSX.cfg .... GAWD! blink.gif something serious has gone with my brain case and old tricks ... rolleyes.gif

From my readings P3D goes best with just a vanilla config file. No tweaks. Well 2.2 on anyway.

So many paywares I do have , I wonder if they will go into the P3D and off course the MP is a primary.

Yeah, that's when I stopped playing with it... my config file, I mean.

I've been an ex-tweaker for 3 months now, sure I'm tempted when the forums make promises of huge performance boosts, but you really need to balance any perceived improvements against the damage caused to personal relationships, and long-term health issues. Binge-tweaking is a real illness, folks.

Now, all together:

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be tweaked,
Courage to change the things
only using the proper Settings dialog boxes,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

I'm going to uninstall and re install the full 2.3. Just because I downloaded it...I'll see if I have better performance.

Also if anyone hasn't seen this:
