Wanaka airport elevation off after NZSI patch 3

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

ORBX recently released patch 3 for their NZSI scenery.

I installed it, and noticed elevation problems with ORBX's own Queenstown and Milford Sound airports, so I re-installed those, and those airports are fixed.

However, Wanaka airport still has elevation problems. The runway and taxiways appear to be about 10 meters higher than the surrounding terrain. This makes the airport look like it has ditches around it and between the taxiways. Very odd, and very unrealistic.

I'm guessing that the NZSI patch 3 caused the problems.

My question is: how can I get the Wanaka airport elevation working again, with the Godzone Wanaka airport?

Update: I tried reinstalling the Southern Lakes (Wanaka and Tekapo) scenery, but it didn't make the ditches go away. Note that when I reinstalled, I got a message saying "the scenery is already installed", so I don't know if anything was actually reinstalled.

Take a look here for a solution.

Just follow the directions in the post I linked to, then read through the rest of the thread.

Let me know if you have any trouble getting this working.

I tried renaming all *NZWF*.bgl files in ORBX\FTX_NZ\FTX_NZSI_05_SCENERY\scenery and Scenery\World\Scenery but now instead of ditches I get plateaus; the runway and taxiways are now *lower* than the surrounding terrain. Also, the terrain is a lot browner than it was before, so I'm guessing when I re-installed Godzone it messed up ORBX's greener textures.

I'm starting to lose hope for a quick fix. I think I will re-install ORBX and Godzone from start. Should that work, or should I also uninstall FSX and reinstall it as well?

In other words, should this fix any New Zeanad scenery problems:

1) uninstall all Godzone scenery
2) uninstall all ORBX scenery
3) install ORBX's FTX NZSI and NZNI
4) install ORBX's FTX NZSI patch 3
5) install ORBX's Queenstown and Milford Sound airports
6) install ORBX's libraries
7) install Godzone scenery (for this, this includes Wanaka, Tekapo, and VLC_Libraries)
8) turn off Godzone photo-real scenery (since I prefer the greener, higher-res ORBX ground textures)

It's a pain to have to do all that. I wish there were a shortcut.

Right now, though, Wanaka's runway is sitting 10 meters below the surrounding terrain. It looks terrible.

Any suggestions?

I've never reinstalled FSX, so I'm not a fan of doing things this way:) But at least this would make sure that there's nothing lurking around to cause problems.

Your plan would work well, I think.

The usual reason why tidying this up wouldn't work is the files in Scenery\World\Scenery -- they can be overlooked.

Once you get it working, the Southern Lakes Switcher can turn off the photo scenery, so you get orbx textures back.

Should I have renamed/deleted all *NZWF*.bgl files in ORBX\FTX_NZ\FTX_NZSI_05_SCENERY\scenery and Scenery\World\Scenery, or just those that either:

(a) have a .bak in the same directory
or
(b) have a identically named file in a different directory
?

For example, should these .bgl files exist:

- Scenery/World/Scenery/ADE_FTX_NZSI_NZWF_elevation_adjustment.bgl (has a .bak file in same directory)
- Scenery/World/Scenery/NZWF_ADE_ALT.bgl (had a same-name file in RealNZWanaka/Scenery)
- ORBX/FTX_NZ/FTX_NZSI_05_SCENERY/scenery/ADE_FTX_NZSI_NZWF_objects.bgl (did not have a .bak in same directory or a same-name file elsewhere)

To use the Real NZ airport with FTX, the idea is to have all the FTX files disabled, by renaming all the .bgl files to .bak. This makes sure that you don't lose the FTX file, in case you ever need it. However the Southern Lakes patcher can't rename these to .bak if a .bak already exists. That's why you need to tidy it up manually.

You can delete ADE_FTX_NZSI_NZWF_elevation_adjustment.bgl in Scenery\World\Scenery, as there can only be one 'stub' file here, and that's NZWF_ADE_ALT.bgl. This is different, and separate, from the file with the same name in RealNZWanaka\Scenery, and is required.

The FTX objects file is up to you, it just adds bits of FTX grass etc, from memory, so you can leave it there and see what happens.

But in your case, it's the FTX stub file in Scenery\World\Scenery which is messing things up, I think.

I uninstalled all my add-on scenery (by running uninstallers when I found them, and simply moving directories when I couldn't find uninstallers). With a "vanilla" install, Wanaka looked fine (flat).

I then re-installed all the ORBX stuff: NZNI, NZSI, SP3, Queenstown, Milford Sound, AI Traffic, BOB, libraries. Wanaka still looked fine (flat), and now had the greener look.

I then re-installed the Godzone scenery: Real NZ Southern Lakes 1.1, VLC Libraries 1.1. Wanaka still looks fine (flat, with brown bits near the runway). Queenstown and Milford South also both look fine.

So far, so good!

I didn't get a chance to actually fly around, or to try out other airports. But hopefully that scenery uninstall/reinstall did the trick.

(A nice side effect of this is that I uninstalled FSGenesis, GEX, and UTX, none of which are used in NZ. So now my FSX install is a little bit cleaner!)

Thanks a bunch for your help!

I think FSGenesis has been made obsolete by FTX Global or NZNI/SI , the package was great and works but some reason the ORBX brand kicks every thing out , this is across the board with most of the older addons .
