ATX PSU connections

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby dart15 » Wed Aug 27, 2014 5:05 pm

At last the "beast" is built........almost!

One final step before I can crank it up..... This will possibly appear to be a stupid question but I'd rather be called stupid for asking rather than not asking!

The psu provides two ATX power leads - one 24 pin mb connector and another which is comprised of 2 x 4 pin connectors.

My question concerns the latter.

The MB has in addition to the 24 pin socket an 8 pin ATX 12v power connector. The MB instructions say, "to use a4-pin ATX. power. supply plug it along pin 1 and pin 5". (This indicates to use the left block of 4 pins of the 8 pin socket).

QUESTION: do I simply use one of the two 4-pin leads OR use both 4-pin leads together as the harness wiring appears to suggest? OR can I use either option and it will not matter?

Appreciate advice from somebody that KNOWS

Many thanks

I don't have my box in front of me as it's in storage, but I think they will only fit one way/position anyway (i.e. you can't get it wrong)- Easy enough to check (without it plugged in!) If it will fit in multiple positions, then get further advice.

Anytime. That guy used to build them for Intel and has been building them for over 26 years so he's quite a useful tool to have in your bookmarks lol
