Nothing new here Owen. Everything they propose has already been tried or is currently in use. Admittedly the table was in the business section of the DC10.
Usually these things get scrapped because the fares charged just don't match the real estate used as compared to being equipped with density economy class seating.

Yeah, what are we talking? Looks like three rows taken up by those two plus the table?

It very much is a throw back from the late 1940s and early 1950s when flying was beyond the reach, more very similar to our old TEAL coral route, only for the rich and privileged, all I want is the window seat as that is to as me always the biggest part off my air travel and holidays.

Mmm those seat cushions Thomson are touting look suspiciously like something from 3rd Class on a defunct railway...

Tell you what does work, though, is facing seats on a fast train.
Totally smooth and quiet, 300km/h, and decent size windows to watch the scenery go by.
Beats flying, any day.

Not sure how that is going deeknow. One of the initial problems with it is that non Air Nz travel agents didn't know how to book it!
It is only fitted to the 777 so not sure what sort of uptake it has. Really only good for kids from what I have seen.

How's your ride these days? Dad is taking Mum to Hawaii for her x0th birthday and booked on ANZ 767 at the end of the month. Are they holding off refurbing them until they phase them out?

I don't think they will be refurbished. The 767 finishes Japan this month and Shanghai in December (delayed by a month due to the 3rd 787 being a month late. It was one of the original test aircraft that has to have the test equipment removed and reconfigured before delivery).
The Raro to Lax sector wil go in July next next year. This means the 767 will be just a regional aircraft servicing the islands, OZ and maybe Honolulu (although that really needs a larger capacity aircraft or greater frequency). So really it would not be worthwhile refurbishng them.
By all accounts the 2 FADEC aircraft NCL and NCK will be sold around June/July next year.
This will be my 4th dying fleet I have been involved with....F27, 747-200 and 747-400.

Thing is with Thompson tho is when they concept something they usually implement it, unlike cRyanair who come up with bonehead ideas that the public hates and flames them for and cans them. Thompson have become very successful because of their routes and in-flight implementations as well as their smart business practises and takeovers. I've flown with them a few times (Since they took over my former fave Britannia) and they are a really nice airline to travel with.

Thinking about it and imagine .. "Air NZ to up its game", .. following the decor that is similar of 1950s restoring the MOTATs Solent to flying condition and maybe the add the Sunderland , obviously it would be for the money bags but It would bring people from all over the world just simply to feel that part off history, look at it this way - be an airline breaking new ground.

The flying boat is looking good, saw it a few weeks back. it's interior is really coming along nicely.

Not a silly idea for both Air New Zealand and MOTAT to get some revenue .. it would require a little engineering .. fact is a lot even for the aircraft and to build a slipway close to the MOTAT base , Its a better idea .. well really anything created or thought off by the NZ gov. , gets peoples attention , the idea is very sound and would be profit making for all included, bring in the Catalina Clubs aircraft for the lighter paying PAX . .. simple!
