A few miles north of Ashburton, spotted this 'rara avis'. It's the Curtiss-Goupil Duck - built by Mr C as part of his defense against the Wright Brothers' patent lawsuit.

Arrr Yes Mr Curtis and the Wright Bros, now that is UGLY .... at least Stony Curtis's from the 'Flintstones' unsure.gif .... I mean Glenn winkyy.gif June Bug looked the part and even today microlights are very much in the same design but that Duck , as Dan said where is the fire , Duck for dinner biggrin.gif

I always thought this looked exactly like a twinkie -- Short Skyvan over Wanaka.

The Skyvan always has something cute about it. "Look at me being a big cargo aircraft with my tiny engines and spacious fuselage!" A bit of a Calimero effect here! It's adorable!

Just because I only like good-looking aircraft shouldn't mean I don't get to enter:)

And I do like twinkies (did like them), and I did watch Die Hard 3 earlier in the week.

Please... Not the Airtruk! The only remarkable thing that pathetic excuse of an aircraft has ever done is appearing in Mad Max... And that was only because it looks ridiculous... Btw, I haven't seen one here yet, I thought that one was the first to enter!

Oh I'm a big fan of beautiful aircraft, the MD-11 in particular. But sometimes it's function over form, just like the Skyvan. It isn't pretty, but it does what it was designed for and it does it pretty good! No wonder that there are still a fair amount of it and it's successors still flying around!
