Looking for advice for simulator

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Nosecone » Tue Nov 25, 2014 9:31 am

Hi all
I am currently in the process of building an MD500e simulator. For me a visual model with 3d cockpit, animations repaints etc are not important.
Given that my cockpit will take care of the visual side and a LCD panel with rotary encoders for the instruments and full working controls, my actual model could just be a polygon. When flying in the 3D cockpit I don’t need any visual model or instrument panel.

That I’m really wanting is just flight dynamics and of course the ability to have a simulated start up shut down procedure.
So is it possible to create a very simple model no textures cockpit animations but add start up shut down procedures and flight dynamics
Is it also possible to tie in the annunciator panel with battery, rpm and other warning lights

Cheers

Rhys

A thought here, with the defaults , what about using the 2D panel and TrackIR , many helicopters I recall had the option having a no VC at Hover-control , or the best person to ask is the chap in Nelson who has the all round cockpit setup .

Hi Ian
At the moment I am using the freeware MD500e which has been updated for fsx. I have used a hex edit program to remove the 3d cockpit and it works a treat.
I downloaded a panel that you could add to any turbine helicopter to simulate a turbine start sequence, works well given the limitations of the flightsim software.
So I was hoping to find out how to make a similair program for my simulator

One program that may help is FSDS3.5, very cheap model build program and simple to use, designed to build scenery and or aircraft and cockpits, may make it an easier procession into a build rather the Gmax application, I would say this was the best program that ever come from the ABUCUS group.

How much of a difference is there between the 500e and 530f? Milviz have just released a 530F which is probably quite realistic.

In turns of turning off the exterior model, you should just need to remove the reference to it in the model.cfg in the aircrafts model folder. eg
Code: Select all
[models]
normal=
interior=md500e_vc

Hi NZ255
The milviz 530 is a good looking model but given I don't need the visual model and VC etc I won't be rushing out to buy it. Reading through other forums there is some issue with the model and the so called real start up procedure is far from what is advertised. Although I understand you are limited to the software when it comes to replicating aircraft systems

First off, there is no tie between the visual model and the flight dynamics, so you have total freedom in separating the two. The biggest problem is that Microsoft have never created a true helicopter flight dynamic model and this has always been a problem for helicopter aficionados. There have a been a variety of attempts to work around this issue, but this does not solve all the issues. The only real solution is to find a flight dynamic model that is as close to what you want.
As said earlier, you do not need to run hex editors etc to get rid of VC's. This can be done in the aircraft.cfg file

Hi
thank you for the reply.
I think maybe it's unrealistic to go down the avenue I was . I have installed steve Henlay Turbinestart and even though it was designed for FS9 I installed it in FSX to try it out.

One thing when I start my helicopter, is the blades just seem spool up to full rotation.
Is there anyway even with the default helicopters to start so the blades slowly build up to full.

One thing Nick 'Choppernut' mentioned was the default EH101 had the best start-up with the rotor , that was when FSX was first released.
