Read The Iliad - read Thucydides - read the Norse Sagas - 3000 years or more and people are just as stupid now as they were then. Why not look at why wars start , in the first place, instead of assuming they are inevitable and focussing on how to win them?
BTW, it's Christmas, so peace on Earth to men of goodwill, and all that stuff. rolleyes.gif

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Certainly both books, 'The Art of War' and 'On War' are probably considered classics in the thought of how wars should be fought, I'm not sure that I would have the fortitude required to finish reading all the way through Clausewitz's comprehensive tome and although he is quoted as saying that "peace is preparation for war" and I guess if that's the case we should all read it, but I find that idea a bit depressing!

For myself, I would prefer reading about famous flights or aircraft - eg the Sled Driver one or some of those written by test pilots or fighter aces.

Maybe I'm more of a purist preferring more directly aviation related writing - or just "one eyed" in my approach.

I think ne of the Roman generals said "if you want peace, prepare for war" so obviously this sort of talk has been going on for many years - I'm sure we won't resolve it here in the nzff forums!

Hope you are all having a Happy Christmas and looking forward to a pleasant New Year.

It is the history that intrigues me, what the people did ... you always going to get the nasty's out there, the 25th was brilliant , invited down the back with the others here, half way thru the afternoon Bruce said, Ian grab your artwork show Takato ... funny thing, Bruce kept on saying 'Zero' rolleyes.gif Takato is the new Japanese girl who just moved in ... showing her some off my books to boot.

She is currently watching TORA TORA TORA .. DVD would probably worn out by now, good thing and this is not the first this has happened , they get intrigued and start studying the books and ask question simply because they don't see that much material in Japan or not taught it, ... good thing she asks questions and off I go into my history lesson .... smile.gif
