Some off these old Alphasim/Virtavia models are still superb, that Scimitar dates back to 2007 I recall .. be GREAT and ideally suited for an upgrade.

The only thing that irritates me a little is that it doesn't have native catapult code. You have to put it into the aircraft.cfg. In addition, the bridles and hold back bars and stuff doesn't show up

If you're interested, I have found RN ships commissioning books here. Down on the left hand side, you can select Carriers, Destroyers, Cruisers etc. Some quite interesting information.

That has always been the problem , but back in its release time this was basically all a new concept adding bridals/hold backs and even now sometimes will not work due to PC and animation , this makes carriers a great option tho for the low end PC.

The squadrons left the Vic just after dawn for Gibraltar.

Getting ready to land on something that isn't moving for a change.

Crossing the famous road across the airport. Too early in the morning for any traffic I guess.

Parked up with the famous (rather bland FSX default) rock in the background.

Being a tourist in Gibraltar. (Photo actually from one of the Ark Royal's visits in the 1970s)

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. It's somewhere I would quite like to go one day, maybe along with a trip to Taranto

Left Gibraltar this morning. Next exciting flying will be around Malta.

Farewell Gibraltar

Met up with the rest of the section and joined the racetrack.

Safely Aboard

Bit of excitement. One of our Scimitars lost it's brakes after recovery and went over the edge.
Pilot was picked up out of the water. (True story. Scimitar 803 squadron HMS Victorous 1961
Pilot: L/t McIntyre)

Cheers. Quite a lot of work to find photos of Scimitars given they were in service for a relatively short period of time, at least on the carriers.

Leaving Malta on a simulated attack profile. 450kts, 50ft

Image
from that to 13000ft in about 90 seconds

Image
Later that afternoon... taxiing onto the cat for a night patrol.

Image
Waiting for the cat to fire.

Image
Climbing like a bat outta hell for 25000ft.

Image
100nm arc around the ship. Lovely night for flying.

Image
Back at the ship. A little left of center but no wave off yet...

Image
Pilots view. No cockpit lights to cut down the glare.

Off the coast of North Africa.

Image
Skyraiders will be replaced by Gannets shortly and Sea Venoms are already being replaced by Sea Vixens. Scimitars of course are shortly to be replaced by Buccaneers.

Image
Probably the last straight wing jet to operate off a carrier.

Possibly not .. The Sea-Hawk was doing a wicked job all the way into the early 1960s and even later on the Indian carrier Vikrant . B-)

The Seahawk was all but gone with the RN by 1960. The Sea Venoms soldiered on until 1970 I believe. Of course the Indian ones were going until the early 80s. Pretty impressive really.
