Postby Splitpin » Sun Feb 08, 2015 7:31 pm

While i was away a couple of flatmates used my pc , and NOW i have this thing called "my search" which seems to have hijacked google
The site very kindly provides steps to delete their product .... but IT WONT WORK !!

Now i see we cant even say what the f ....., as in the three letters, changed to H , give me a break , PC gone mad ...what next ? we wont be able to say merry Christmas .... bull .... opps , cant be gender specific ...bovine dung.

Marty, I feel your pain - it should be illegal to have these things default to Yes. I saw an update from Adobe the other day which asked me if I wanted to install and keep Ask.com as my search engine. Of course I didn't. And there is another which tries to trick you into installing McAfee A/V
I have found that where one of these rogue search toolbars has been installed, a rightclick in a blank area of the toolbar will usually produce a menu, where you can uninstall it.

You can remove my search partially from Control Panel/Add-Remove and remove its bits from the browser, to remove it fully also run an antivirus (I use Panda) and Malwarebytes... Run into this one many times

Thinking on, it might be Java updates pushing the Ask thing, and Adobe the McAfee one...but you have to read every screen, not just click Yes-Yes-Yes because you want the damned update to piss off so you can get some work done. Defaulting to 'Yes' has to be stopped.

It ain't Adobe or McAfee. It's on another installer you have downloaded... Usually it's hidden in an installer from Uploaded.net...

I don't allow automatic updates. That means when Adobe Flash Player notifies me of an update, I install it manually if I want to, and that means I can refuse to include the McAfee install. Same thing with Java updates, except they are trying to sneak Ask onto your computer. Google is the default (and only) search engine on all my machines.

I do love how they for uninitiated peoples how McAfee takes a ride when its not asked for and many the others hitch a ride, as pointed out , you really have to read thru auto updates, frankly many you down need anyway unless requested.

Yes, this phenomena has become quite intrusive lately - NEVER install anything by just clicking on Next->Next->Next ! The default install always includes trash - so use the Custom installation and un-check all the rubbish....

They are getting really sneaky with it now. I installed something the other day and you actually had to look for all the crap that they were trying to push on me.

That is something I should show or point out to my brother, It could become nightmare with him , think for him at the mo is simply tell him don't install auto-updates.

Is it too late to use System Restore? I would imagine that a restore point just before the damage was done would do the trick.

I prefer the pretty Asia/Thai girls ... but then again I want to keep all my little toys and books at arms reach ... so brides are out off the question :wink2:
