F4 over N California

Postby scaber » Tue Feb 10, 2015 10:05 pm

I seem to be flitting between the different aircraft in my hangar at the moment. Tonight was the F4 Phantom. Took off from San Francisco and headed south. FSX crashed before my destination but at least I had managed a few screen shots on the way.

Some of my scenery got corrupted last week as a consequence of applying a texture 'fix' without due consideration as to what I was doing  - and although most has been reinstalled it seems that this area is un-repaired as yet.

Have to say that the Phantom is one nice machine - or maybe it's nostalgia from the Vietnam era, free love etc from the 60s-70s.

The version MilViz keeps tempting me with is taking a long time - your's looks great. What's this about 'free love' in the sixties and why was I not informed. Got married at Cold Bay, Alaska in 1962 - nothing in life has been free :D .

Well, I've been informed by supposedly reliable sources that this was what the 60s was all about - somehow I managed the 60s and 70s without a hint of this sort of free for all - the lot of a science nerd I suspect, too many other more interesting things to see and do! - hard to believe I just said that :o

Yes, that is the Milviz F4 and even though not everything is working I'm still enjoying it - Actually, I think there was an update last week which I didn't check up on - Ian, do you happen to know if there was or am I misremembering something else?

There is a new update coming out soon....The nav system is taking shape. Don't move while your INS is aligning...not only will you have to reset your lat/lon counters but the mechanics of gyro stabilized inertial platforms have been simulated such that it will take longer to level itself and align with true north so you can get accurate ground speed and track data, as well as accurate present position info. Drift over time will mean that you actually do have to provide present position updates :D .

Oh and if your INS dies on you, you can still use the air data mode of the nav computer....except you gotta feed it magnetic variation and wind velocity data by hand and even then it can drift you by as much as 27nm/hr off your true position. But that should be enough to get you within range of navaids to reset your position and get home safe.
