Canadian trip photos from DeeKnow

Postby deeknow » Mon Feb 23, 2015 3:36 pm

Hey lads. Am on a working holiday trip in Canada at present so gonna take as many pics along the way as I can and post any worth looking at here. Gonna be busy and not likely to have the luxury of time to be scoping out viewing points etc so take em or leave em :)

First leg, Auckland to Vancouver

Loading up ZK-OKB B772 at Auckland, my lift to CYVR (see flightaware log)
Image

Auckland was loaded with 777s, there were 4 on the ground that I could see. Also a China Southern 777 and China Airlines 747 (Skyteam livery) but couldn't get a decent shot of them sadly
Image

Arrived in Vancouver, in a Canadian Airlines 787 sandwich, here's the one on the Starboard side...
Image

And the other on Port, looks pretty snazzy in this livery I reckon...
Image

And a JAL 787 on the opposite side of the terminal makes three on one airport, coooool !!!
Image

A Philippines 777, not an airline I've seen in the flesh before...
Image

From the airport took the sky-train into town to my hotel on the waterfront, and whadya know, within 100m of my room is the Vancouver float-plane dock... sweet !!! A gaggle of radial Beavers...
Image

Closer. I sat in Maloney's Irish pub right beside the pontoons and watched these guys coming and going for an hour or so, absolute gold..
Image

And the turbo-prop powered Otter cool kids around the corner...
Image

That's it for today. Staying in Vancouver until Friday when I head in to Calgary, more pics then

From the glorious Summer warmth of NZ, to the freezing cold (and wet) Winter of Vancouver (and Canada)!

A shock to the system?... ...!

Winter here in England....waiting for Summer to arrive!

Northern Hemisphere stuff!

Most on my flight simming is done at the lower end of California, Arizona, and New Mexico, where its warm and cosy!.... :D ...!

Keep wrapped up DeeKnow!

Paul....freezing my Crown Jewels!.... ...!

On my bike, shopping to Sainsbury's this morning .....6 degrees C...feels like 1 degree C.... :( ...!

Ian, Marty, Paul: thanks lads. It's actually pretty mild at the moment, 2deg overnight and about 4 or 5 first thing this morning. I went for a 12k run before breaky this morning along the waterfront and around Stanley Park. Bloody lovely...

A different city scape for sure ... San Diego almost looks the same but for an aircraft carrier as a museum on the waterfront, reason that is on a bucket list.

Hey lads. Well after 5 days in Vancouver I'm now in Calgary. It's a balmy -10deg tonight so not mucking about outside if I can help it :o

Flew in-land today in an Embraer 190 and is the first time I've been in one. Lovely little aircraft. First impressions when you jump on board is that its like a super size ATR or something, a little wider and a lot longer. Turns out the cabin height is pretty cozy, e.g. couldn't stand up straight when taking a wizz in the loo. Nice to fly in though, seemed fairly quiet in the climb and cruise and super stable in the air.

Anyway, here's a couple of pics from today, was dark by the time we got to Calgary so nothing from that end...

First up, the E190
Image

There are Dash-8's galore here in Canada, funny that ;)

Air Transat A330 : not an aircraft model we see a great deal of in NZ - this one on its way to London

Calgary .. New Zealand's Olympic computer games contender next maybe  now you have to choose your best discipline, and start training for it. Maybe the FSX Dash8 .. saves you on your 12km morning run :D .. sweet update,

Another update lads. This time a flight back from Calgary to Vancouver. Was getting dark in Calgary as we left so slim pickings I'm afraid as had to rark up the ISO setting on the camera, but did get a few salvageable shots. Glad to be back in Vancouver, was bloody nippy in Alberta, and mild really by their standards. Minus 10deg with another 7deg wind-chill at times and a snow flurry for most of the day.

There's an Air Canada A330 under there somewhere, I swear....
Image

DHL 737-400 freighter operated by Southern Air, I think mostly in the Caribbean. Looked quite cool against the down town Calgary city-scape...
Image

Air Canada Rouge (their budget subsidiary) taxiing in to the gate. First time I'd seen an A319 in the flesh...
Image

An aircraft we see regularly in NZ but not often with ground air pumping into the rear cargo hold to stop the show freezing up...
Image

And finally on board the E190 for our flight only to have to park up on the ramp to get a nice hose down with Glycol ...
Image

That's it for today. I've got a day hiking in the hills around Squamish tomorrow and a nosey at Whistler mountain. Then on Sunday have a flight to Dallas via Denver so should be some aero eye candy along the way.

Thanks guys, and heh yeah Marty don't worry the running has gone out the window pretty quick. Decided a warm coffee and muffin in-doors is the more sane option for now :)

Well, not supposed to be an aviation day today but did go for a hike up Squamish mountain aka The Chief, and while up there the following air ambulance landed on the tops. Was quite a view from up there, and a nice big granite spot for them to touch down on. Spectacular countryside for flying I bet...

a wider angle shot...

and a shot of us looking back down the mountain after the 2 and a bit hour climb,...
