Apparently you have never heard the ringing in your ears when someone hits the bucket with a hammer as I will arrive armed with a big hammer :@

I think another BIG factor that impacts forum activity is LIFE itself.

Everything is getting faster, busier, and crazier each day...

I have to admit that my contribution (posting) dropped by 30% recently due to things getting very busy at work and at home.
When I have time for the forum I do admin stuff instead of posting :) Trying to grind through the requests and bugs.

I was able to "fix" the forum search, change it to SQL based search and re-indexed the whole thing (about 8 million words :) )
I'll carry on with answering request but I can't do it in "real-time" time anymore so apologies if I don't react on requests for a week or so. I'll get there eventually...

I don't mind the new and have no problem with it - had none with the old either.
Would like to know where my Avatar ( the picture of the tower ) went though.

cheers from one of the middling older but not yet old B@stards. :D

Go to your "User Control Panel" then overview to Board Preferences and under Edit Global Settings drop-down Edit Display Options.

Check display avatar in there should solve the problem.

I've noticed that newer simulation users (and there do seem to be quite a few) gravitate automatically to the Steam forums, or to more well-known social sites like Reddit. (the latter has a /Flightsim "subreddit" that is quite active. I'm present as a regular there as well now...same user name.) The user base in this regard also seems to be MUCH younger than the typical forum crowd of the websites we all know.

I've also noticed at SOH, here, Avsim, etc (don't really visit Simviation of Flightsim.com forums) that it usually is the same dozen or two dozen people at the most, regardless of the size of the forum, who are the most active. I can't say that I know the best solution, other than to utilize other sites and bring NZFF to the attention of simulation users who may be flying in the area. Seems like there could have been a chance when Orbx tackled NZ due to their popularity, but they obviously didn't follow through beyond the basic landscape packages and Queenstown.

As others have said, the "real-world" is a factor too, and I know I've been busier lately, and have either not used the simulator extensively, or have been flying in other regions outside of NZ lately.

In terms of the forum change itself, it does take some getting used to, and at least on my rather large monitor, it seems less distinctive to me regarding what's marked as a new post, stickied post, or old post. If I may, maybe making the stickies more distinctive (bold font) would make the line clearer.

I am slowly getting used to the new forum style. I need to give it some time to adjust.
The old forum, even though slow and technically inferior, had a certain quirky charm and readability about it that is hard to explain.

EDIT: Hmmm hang on a minute I have just tried the eTech "skin" preference which is quite similar to the old forum style.
I might switch back and forth between the 2 styles and see which I prefer.
