Anything BOT has nothing to do with me ... I keep crying to pointing to possibles, but generally these are further wider outsiders.

Marty, bots (short for 'Netbots') are robotic programs which trawl the 'net looking for new webpages or changed ones, and sending the info back to the search engine company that launched them, to keep their database up-to-date. You can tell by the name which mob they belong to, and they carry identifying code which website owners can use to allow them entry or not. I'm sure you've noticed that the bots appear as Registered Users, not Hidden or Guests.

Cheers

"Bots" are like little Internet Ferrets.

They constantly burrow around underground, in all the various Sites, looking for something new and tasty to catch!

Beware!...They are watching us all the time...(a bit like the IRS and the CIA)... ....!

Paul..... ...!

In the Olden Days, (before The Internet), a "bot/botty" used to be the rear end of a baby, ready for dusting with powder... :D ...!

On my site, I normally choose to turn off the display of bots when I check on visitors, but I've just had a quick look to see how many are visiting -- the main search engines appear to drop in every hour, others are every two hours, and Bing just pops in when he feels like it.

Of course this means that search results are always very up-to-date, which helps me a lot. I also get to see the 'hits' from search results, they account for about 5% of visits to my site. Of those hits, Google accounts for about 96% of them, which shows how many people use Google to search. These days, I tend to use Bing a lot, as it is integrated in the phone and tablet. But Google is going to be the leader for a very long time, unless Microsoft can claw something back with Windows 10's built-in Bing.

Being part cyborg myself, with some mechanical 'improvements' in my chest, I can relate.

I suppose the advantage of "Bots" is that they constantly keep the various Internet Search Engines up-to-date!

So what we search for, carries the latest information available, presuming that the Search Engines amend the information accurately where and when required..... .....!

I wonder how the Google Satellite Maps are up-dated all round the World.....Is it ever possible?
(The tree appearing in my back garden was cut down years ago, and my motor bike is no longer parked in my front garden!!).... :P ...!

Paul....with my botty sat on the potty... :D ...!
