Stopped in at Te Papa, found ZK-NGK



I was impressed with the military-weight feel to all the controls. This cockpit has seen some serious use, and is quite scuffed.
But all the bits move exactly the way they are meant to. Moi in the hot seat, so this is first-hand information I give you... but you already knew this, didn't you?



Well worth a visit, some interesting bits and pieces; how aviation has changed in a short timeframe.

I ordered the book, had on the shelf now three months or so , by compare to the NAC book released years back I was a little disappointed with the content .. do like the office seat there , funny to have seen this in one piece , the ole Spark Plug NGK .

Re-reading: "military-weight feel"... by this I mean it's built like an Oshkosh truck.
And you can see it's had generations of user feedback: the seat is split to allow column movement, right?
When you give it full right pedal, the leading edge of the seat tips down so you can fully straighten the leg.

I know the US military love there Oshkosh trucks and prime moves , least you have the feel off control , I'm not sure they were used in the civy world but there is some sense in have a control column that moves, you can feel the back pressure and the ups and downs .

I had a lot of fun in that cockpit, I didn't want to get out but there was some snot nose 5 year old behind us so I had to...after all I am an "adult"...

I was blownaway by how small everything was.
I tried to use every button and every control while I was in there, so after sliding the seat in, I rolled the control, turned on the landing lights, moved the fuel control levers, mashed some buttons on the CDU, raised the landing gear (I actually took a few moments to consider this...surely it's disconnected? ), turned the tine tiny autopilot selectors. When I got out I released I hadn't even looked out the window which I wanted to do to see the real perspective. Some might say you don't need to look out the window

Don't worry Nick, every-time my brother stops here and want to see the new going ons with the simulators ... get onto the control and still gos out making aeroplane noises , far as the 5 year old was concerned and the rest off the crowds behind you ... If your good at it , make those aeroplane noises ... it would have scared them all away !
