Terrain like that .. nothing left, wonder what the black box will have to say, no distress call is weird.

Use the speed control at bottom left for replay speed.

That is some busy airspace, a blessing none of the crossing traffic copped it.

Copilot locked out of the cockpit, according to the cockpit audio.
I suppose the airlines are loathe to publicise how access is controlled to the front.

Truly a shocking incident.

Not the first time that's happened lately. A Delta into Vegas I think it was the other week had the same issue, tho didn't result in a crash. Will be interesting to see what hte other black box says (if anything) when they find it...) But the sheer devastation of this aircraft, almost no pieces larger than a tennis ball indicates one hell of a high speed impact. Very reminiscent of a BAe 146-200 (Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 1771) that went down in California a while back now, almost literally nothing left of that either.

I guess after the last few years they will seriously checking the pilots mental state.
Fact is it now maybe a return to a three cockpit crew, and one having to wear Ox , even only as security officer.

That was an interesting read, Owen...>>>

Shocking!

An area I am familiar with, in my daily Sim Flights around California.

Not the first and not the last , the amount off disgruntled drivers driving the friendly skies ..... another well known incident and specific out off the Spain's tourist areas is pilots so drunk they start fiddling around then go to sleep - that was a regular occurrence. .... now were is that dog in the cockpit idea again ... The aircraft would or should have been on auto pilot , ... what the hell is a FMC for , something was tampered with !

As you mentioned, Ian...

I find it strange, that I would expect both aeroplanes to be running on "Autopilot", and retaining height, direction, and speed; and movement, (accidental. or otherwise), of the manual controls, would have no effect?

Paul....(only a Sim Pilot).....

The one who left the cockpit obviously thought were in cruz and off we go ... even with a sudden accident - 'decompression' , the more I think about it is the mental state of the one in the cockpit , .. I only clicked watching a doco tonight .... one big problem they armoured the doors to stop peoples going in after the 9/11 ... I book my flight on the fact that is what has happened .... or least till or if they can get a reading from the flight recorder.

I'll wait till the findings of the second box are known before starting to draw conclusions

Ummm as with everything, you can see it on Youtube!
The copilot would have needed to switch the manual "lock" on twice in the 10 minute descent.

You know me and my pencils , as Charl pointed out in the Utube vid, that door open switch is only a quick .. would only take two seconds two open the door. Its obvious they are going to have to find another way , that is crash was intentional .

I had forgotten this one... right in our very own ANZ.
Policy was changed today... 2 crew in the cockpit at all times.

On several flights in tbe US a few years back, if one crew member left the flight deck, a cabin crew member went in and another guarded the flight deck door with a galley cart...

YIP Bloody Great Idea ... I'm sure like the passengers, the cabin crew do not want to go plunging to there deaths with some radical doing there tantrum upstairs, the entire crew checking everyone else as a team , I never thought of that .

That used to be the case up until the installation of cameras.
Personally I have always preferred the 2 crew concept.

Strange .. every since 1945 and all the way up to the mid 1980s it was HIJACK .. today its the drivers taken control or least seems to be easier to get into the cockpit , almost them, they are the terrorist .. Strange one off the most infamous come from the region , Dawson field airfield hijacking , but now the pilots are involved ..
