From post to print

I've been messing with the idea of printing some of my screens onto canvas , , so while I've been sitting around ... i did just that.
I found a place in AKL that can do it ... didnt think to look here in chch
Anyway , its an international story . I sent my files (bmp) to these people , with concerns that the resolution may degrade with enlargement ... but "do what you can" ... and selected a 45x30 format... for 2 prints .
... payment was accepted ..$42nzd incl shipping per print , i kept an eye on the process .."order conformation" ... then "printing" and then shipped Australia post via EMS ! .. strange , i thought , their in akl. :ph43r:

Anyway .... This morning at about 0630 , Sam , our local courier post driver was banging on my door wanting to give a box from Haicang district in Xiamen ...CHINA.!... and inside were my 2 prints , and i have to say , they came out great. Not photographic , which of course they never were ... but 99% of the way i posted them here .... the canvas gives a painted texture which improves them some how .

So , im not sure who i was actually dealing with ... but it was fast , secure , and the end result is great.
Looking at them now .... if i saw them for sale somewhere for say , $60nzd , i would buy them .(without wanting to sound arrogant)
I think that 45x30cm(print) would be the maximum i could do with my present graphics card .... but if i could screw that down even tighter , and find a market .....
Looking now for a printer in chc , but to be honest , i doubt i will find a price to compare ....but i dont know .
I'm in contact with a lady in Hamilton at the moment who may be able to help... shes working up a herc screen for me ..... will advise :)

What a cool idea. I know a guy with a gallery who sells things like that, I should catch up with him sometime.

This is one area experimenting with printing , still it dose get expensive and still working on getting better results , I'm still testing the water but found the best outfit is Printing.com at the top end off Riccarton Rd , this again is still one area , screen printing outfits I have not checked up on for canvas, I like to see your results.

I had a great chance to see the results off Marty's posted printing, one thing he pointed out was the required size as so they can wrap the image onto the frame - just whilst working on a new piece it hit me, I would put in a border around for the printing, snow it on the extreme - a cloud affect , at cost is very expensive printing BUT maybe an option if my art work really started (no pun here) to takeoff.

Great catch up this morning Ian ..... lots of information and ideas shared , amazing what you can cover in 90 minutes.
Was also amazed to see the drawings you were doing 40 years ago ... :o
Damn good coffee as well . Sorry about my shaking leg .... i wasn't nervous  just part of the wiring problem i have at the moment ... but getting better.

I'm glad you liked the prints . Its a strange feeling to see something that only really exists in cyber space , in the flesh.
Thanks again for being a good host , and putting up with a grumpy old fart and his silly ideas.

Marty , Matey .. the best thing was checking your work and comparing the theme and possibility , was great to really see how and result .. thinking about I wonder how many back yard printers may have this as a backyard idea .

Funny you should say that .... I've been looking at (after searching Google) local printers , and as far as i can see , the China deal cant be beaten .... fully mounted , and shipped anywhere for next to nothing ... well , not nothing ... <_< but you know what i mean.
But as i said , Im waiting on that place in Hamilton to get back with a sample ... and a price .
As i told you today , Im limited at the moment by the system i use ..XP home 32bit , and a low end graphics card.
I dont really think this" boat will float" but , unless i try , I'll never know.

The stuff i showed you today , cant compare in anyway to your work ... poles apart .... mine are just portraits , all the work is done for me .... all i do is arrange it.
The problem is .... the market .... and this is where you have the upper hand (as i said today) If someone wanted a ship drawn ... you can do it , a tank ... you can do it ...any aircraft you can think of .. you can do it.

Ive lost my way here sorry ... cant think what was going on dont worry .

As it always was, and without the weight penalty of those waggly wings the opposition were using. :arrr:
