Unsung hero

Postby Splitpin » Sun Apr 26, 2015 8:35 pm

With all this ANZAC stuff going on at the moment , i feel a little for the under dogs ... whom ,should not be "under"
A radio thing yesterday about , how the Spitfire won the battle of Britain ... Yes , it helped ... but this old girl did much more.........

If your going to go public , at least do some research ... and present the facts.... legends are fine , but their rarely fact.
Correct me if I'm wrong ... if there is anybody out there <_<

You're dead right , Marty - the Spitfire had all the glamour, but the Hurricane was the workhorse. It had similar performance, was a more stable gun platform, and was much easier to repair. The Hurricane also accounted for more enemy planes.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Interesting stats for Adler Tag which Herr Goering considered the peak day of BoB. RAF fighters available - Spitfire 192 Hurricane 388. Certainly gave the Hurri pilots more chances.

One thing from that movie I'll never forget. Michael Caine's dog, still sitting in his MG, waiting for his non-return from the scramble.

Take current television (mean sprirted cooking shows, talent(less) shows and cheap reality TV. Newspapers that have evolved to become tabloids that are now the equivalent of a Womans Weekly magazine and radio shows that seem to rely on crass Aussie imports and what does this all say about the average IQ of NZs's that this c**p is pitched at? Don't even get me started on Mike Hoskins and Paul Henry (didn't we banish him to the West Island?) Just keeps on floating to the top doesn't it?
Sorry Marty just hijacked your thread. One of my pet issues at the moment...the dumbing down of NZ.
