Not sure what you mean Ian since the 747 entered service on January 22, 1970. Can't really get much earlier into the 70's than that...

First QANTAS 747 arrived at Christchurch Jan 1972 , that is the early 70s , not mid , not late ;) , we then got the C5A visit in Feb 1974 that'll be the early/mid 70s B-)

Would have loved to see the return to airfield and extent off damage , ... have a great photo off a Mustang buzzing/strafing a field bending it props in Europe in returned home to the UK.
