Sounds like Orbx NZAA might be back on track

Postby NZ255 » Thu Jun 04, 2015 3:39 pm

About a 'mystery object' dirt runway near Auckland from an orphaned ILS.
I was also going to add that this mystery object won't be present in another project being worked on now ;)

There have been a few attempts at revitalizing FTX NZ on their forum lately, along the lines of 'more airports = more region sales', so NZAA may be a 'thing' again.

However this doesn't always work out, and I'm sure Orbx are aware of the pitfalls. I get at least two queries a day asking if and when I'm going to do XXX airport, but in reality that type of interest doesn't equate to sales.

NZ is not going to magically rise from the 'niche' market category, at least not long-term. We need a couple of fanatics plugging away. Which in my case, means buying a subscription. (Why don't we have a 'blatant plug' smilie?)

Nah haven't teamed up with them. Very vague what they said though, not sure what they mean.
But My NZAA is still on, which I'm working on all the time to get it done and out there.
Gonna have to post some teaser shots for you all :wink2:

Nothing like a 'Che' teaser ! I did find some photos a few weeks back .. these were based from a Series done for Mike I think by Craig aka : Towerguy , I'm very sure these , via Mike's and Craig' permission, they would be happy for me to pass on .

I have no problem with that but the only thing about NZAA is that
the only constant is change and those photos will all be well and truly out of date now. :(

Author Tony Phillips wrote a great book ' With Great Foresight' , the History off Christchurch International Airport .... He needs to re-write it .. maybe a Volume 2 , the airport has now changed so much ... the only thing that has not changed is the names of the roads around airport  ..

Thanks for the support Ian!
They are probably more further along in the project than I am, which makes me working on it anymore almost pointless. Though it remains to be seen as of yet.
I had been working on VERY extensive ground polygons for NZAA. I think good ground polygons makes an airport, though it's not everything. I went as far as to model every single concrete tile on the runway/taxiway/apron. It is very time consuming but I was essentially re-creating NZAA's aerial photos through the use of ground polygons, which makes the airport base super-detailed. I've got no Idea what ORBX will come up with their interpretation.

I'm working on an airport in the States, Bellingham International (KBLI) atm, I don't know if anyone here would have heard of it? Same deal as NZNP, open terminal, detailed parking area, etc.
Anyway when that's complete, which is pretty soon, maybe I should work on Palmerston North, Dunedin or something else? I'm open to suggestions. Not sure what Robin is working on atm don't want to clash with his projects.

Below are some raw mesh screens of what I did for NZAA with the ground polygons:

Che -- I would expect that FTX NZAA would be NZNI-only, and there are still plenty of locals who don't use this. I know that a lot do, and that there are plenty of reasons why you'd be better off going somewhere else, but I really need a non-FTX NZ NZAA for my VLC-only Prepar3D install:) However I would also buy an Orbx NZAA for FSX...

I'll PM you with some info on where I'm heading, as I'm not ready (or in any position) to announce anything at the moment.

Yip that is looking the part, an outside the country airport by yourself may get me outta the country , I have heard of Bellingham , it was one of the primary airports in Flight Unlimited III , back then restricted to fly specific areas in the US of A , one was a the Washington state area and the other being the Sacramento Cal area but you could never fly between the both.

Yes, I'm also VLC-only on Prepar3D and would love to see an NZAA for VLC from Che. New Plymouth is amazing.
